Was going through and checking my cowl drains on the front of of the car (all clean) on 2009 Turbo.

I saw there is a computer module on the outside of the car, under the foot rest area for the passenger front.

Seems like a lousy place to have a computer, does not seem that water tight.

Can anyone tell me what it is?

Hah, I looked at the shop manuals, it is behind the liner, right below the cowl drain.

Just does not look that water proof and was surprised to see it. If you had water up to the bottom of the car, it would start to get wet.

How big a connector did it have going into it?

The DME control unit is on the right, in +2011 anyway.

That's about all my searching could find. There's no overall 'module location' info I've ever been able to find.

I was really spoiled with my previous Grand Cherokee. The parts and service PDFs were VERY well laid out. They contained very useful info like both logical and physical diagrams of the wiring harnesses, along with body location ID codes. That made it a cinch to look at an overview picture, get the location ID and cross-reference that back to the connector... and see socket pinouts for it.

Yeah, I hear it's possible to subscribe to PIWIS for a lot of this, but from what I've seen over the shoulder at the service department it's not designed for the uninitiated. And when you're paying by the hour that can get kinda spendy. I'd willingly pay a few hundred dollars if it meant getting a well laid-out PDF file that I could use to search locally. Hell, I'd pay $100 just to get the owner's manual that way (not stuck inside that wretched 'Good to Know' app).

I am not gonna lie, I thought it would take me 10 min to find on the minimal docs I do have, so I did not take a picture and getting that big plastic splash guard off in the wheel well is a pain.

I have PDCC, so that makes me wonder if that was it, or air suspension.

If you look at the picture below, it should be below the CU MOTOR ABS/ESP area, but it is outside the car between the car body and the liner.

It had a connector that was a big metal barrel diameter of a quarter, with wires coming out. So thinking about it now, maybe it was not a computer, but some sort of analog module, with sensor wires coming out.

With the weird electrical problems I have been having, I am checking all over the place for water problems.

Ah, that does look different than the illustrations for the 958. Sorry, I posted info for the wrong model.

The only other thing the 958 has over in that area is the washer pump(s?) and, I think, an air sensor.

I've seen nothing in any of the docs I've got that mentions anything at all about the theft/security system (the one that uses a separate cell connection from the PCM).

Here's the legend for the numbers in the previous picture, if any of the locations are similar then perhaps one of these names might ring the right bell..

Part of the body control system (tilt, yaw, and/or "g" sensor)? If is has just a few wires, it's definitely not any sort of computer.
