What to do with this 951?
#19
Josh, I think you provided a crack free dash for this car, but it got left out in the sun for 3 months and it cracked. Mike said that was the last straw and he didn't want to let the car sit for the 6 month stints his jobs requires.
Richard, fixer upper is right. But it came with some pieces to continue the progress towards being a reliable car once again.

Voith,
Agreed the car shouldn't parted, I sold it on to someone who was planning on rescuing it, but his plans changed I took the car back. The car was beaten down by lack of use, but the bones are good, just sat in the sun too long.

My 951 is far uglier than any of these and I'm having a hard time thinking I should do anything other than restore it. These cars are getting hard to find and expensive.

Chris,
Restoration is a possibility, for sure. The more time I spend with the car the more I can appreciate the solid nature of everything underneath. My last ownership period was a whirl wind because I had too much going on, this time I am going to go over the car top to bottom and make a call on what to do.

After spending some time with the car I think I am forming a bit of a plan, in that I am going to tackle the mechanical side of things and creature comforts but leave the exterior as is for now. So the to do list is:
- Alignment
- Charge AC (has new compressor and seals)
- Bleed the brakes
- Tires
- Install radio
- Fix sunroof
- Drive

Restore, and sell to someone else when it becomes a bore or a chore.
Turning it into a track ride is a one way trip. As pointed out, they're becoming harder to find.
One day, somebody out there will want an original 951, and they'll be gone.
Just my $0.02.
