Default Engine in inventory-how to store?

Hello,
I have maybe 10 years a spare 928 S 2 engine with 100.000 km on it in my inventory. I drained the coolant a few years ago.

What is also to do? Pulling the plugs and put a tea spoon of oil in the cylinders?

Thx for advice!

I may be a bit OCD, but one thing you should do for sure is clean it. There is no reason to leave dirt on it, and the risk is high that any hole you open up into the internals of that motor (spark plug hole to oil for example) will get dirt in it and destroy the engine later, when it is put back to running condition. I would not store it dirty.

Good advices!
It´s the dust from staying 10 years in a dry barn.
PO tells me he bought the engine for an hot rod beetle. He tells me the PPO build a GTS engine in his 928 S.
Maybe the engine is 15 years out of service? Before I remove spark plugs I will clean the heads. All studs I had covered with spray fat.
My shop tells me that a high risk is old coolant. It´s after long time like acid and damage the heads.

Based on the condition of the motor you have a core engine.
I think that however your storing it is good till your ready to put it into service.

NOTE at that point it will need to have the heads removed and all external seals replaced,
the head gaskets are now protecting the mating surfaces,
but there will be corrosion on the heads and possibly the block.

A bore inspection should also be made after the heads are removed,
its possible that the rings might stain the bores from extended sitting and moisture.
and possibly swapping in a new ring set would be prudent

The old oil in the pan isn´t a problem?
It'`s s one hour work changing the oil.
Putting the engine on the forklift and do it!

I need my workplace for my tractors and farm equipment.
