Interesting...... An LS3 crate engine direct from Chevrolet is U$7911 with 430HP....and redline at 6600 rpm.... although I wonder about the better fuel economy claim... Is the Porsche 3.8 not better at fuel efficiency than a 6.2L V8 ?

The turn your 911 into a Camaro kit. Lots of false information. They said the LS is less top heavy is totally false, how can a V8 have a lower centre of gravity then a flat 6? Also the fuel economy, how can an engine almost double the displacement be better on fuel? A stripped LS3 weighs 418 lbs, a 3.6 weighs around 450 with accessories and exhaust. So once that is added to the LS3 its probably the same or heavier. Then all the issues integrating the electronics to an engine from a different world. And completely killing the resale.
The thread makes it seem all rosy but its not. I commend those who do it because its what they want, but it's definitely not a solution for everyone.

The aluminum block LS is very light up top and all the weight is in the bottom. A V8 engine uses large counterbalances on the crank ( unless it's a single plane crank) unlike the boxer engine which doesn't need them. All the same putting an LS into a 911 misses the point entirely as it's the wrong place to put the engine. When Porsche originally dreamt up the 356 the engine was in front of the rear wheels but it got moved to the back when space was needed for a rear seat and some luggage. I know this for fact as i read it at the Porsche museum. The proper place for an LS engine is up front where all engines should be and the gear box at back where it should be.
