Default Small clicking noise from left side of the engine

Sounds like its coming from this side of the bay. A small clicking noise..

Maybe its from the black thing above the coolant tank? What is it?

I hope its not the infamous ims related issue.. I have a tip.

What should i look for?

Maybe post a video of the sound so we can hear it. The black thing above the coolant tank is the burp valve to allow trapped air to escape from the cooling system - that might hiss, but not click. Clicking could be a stuck lifter, a small exhaust leak, piston slap, loose timing chain due to a bat tensioner (though that's usually more of a rattle), or probably 20 other things. What year is the car?

I hear what sounds like a pulley squeak, but not a rattle or ticking.

To check pulleys, you'll need to remove the airbox (easy), then remove the serpentine belt, then spin each pulley by hand and also check to see if they have any wobble from bearing wear. I bet you find 1 or 2 that don't spin well, squeak, or have some bearing wobble. When you go to reinstall the belt, you'll find this drawing helpful.

If you hear the ticking noise more prominently again, try to take another video and post it up.

Also, what sometimes sounds like a squeak with an engine running is the platinum baffles inside the catalytic converters rattling. You can test these by gently tapping them with the engine off (and cool so you don't burn or melt anything) to see if you hear any rattling or shaking inside of them.

Thanks so much petza.

This might sounds like a dumb question...
if i found a bad pulley or squeak... What then? Some WD40? Or need to go replace them? I hope this doesnt cost much.. I just replaced the passenger airbag sensor this month. Hid the 500usd repair bill from my wife.

So trying to DIY this one.

Don't know if they sell individual ones separately, but the complete kit from Suncoast is $315 - https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/PK997SPULLEY.html

Alternator pulley is separate, but different and probably not needed. Might want to replace the serpentine belt when reinstalling if you don't know when it was last changed and depending on what it's condition looks like. Keep the old one in the car as a spare. Check into the Gates belts from Napa - might be cheaper than OEM and at least as good. If you take your old one up there, they can match it up for you counting, the ribs and comparing the length to get you the right one.

I'm actually not 100% sure as neither of my cars are using the factory airbox any longer. Here are a couple pics of my engine bay when I was doing my Fabspeed intake conversion, and what I see in that area looks like a black plastic spacer - it's possible the airbox just rests on it as one of the alignment points.

Nothing goes in that hole. It's a hollow post that the rubber bushing sits on/goes over to absorb vibrations from the air box.
