Unbolt from the rack, dash pod and connections. Yank!

Dash pod is out, inst cluster is out, there's nothing there but a steering wheel right now.

Undo the height adjustment spring from the column, grab the arms of the steering column, rotate it around its axis back n forth a couple of times, and then yank. Hard.
probably should take the steering wheel off first. Why does the column need to come out?

What holds the column in the car (besides the spring) is the bottom cm or so of the ovalled part of the column shroud, which fits in the gasket in the firewall (Gasket sits just above the edge of the surface rust in the pic). Rotating the column distorts the gasket seal and allows it to pull out a bit easier.
