Speakers, amp, sub advice for a 91 928
#17
Yes, it's pretty small. It is designed to be small and give good sound in that order. The bass is plenty loud and goes low enough to properly fill out the sound of the bass-challenged speakers. But it's not going to annoy any neighboring drivers at a stop light.
A full size amped subwoofer will certainly be lower and louder. But how else are you going to get a subwoofer anywhere in that car without removing parts or a putting visible box in the hatch? I am very happy with it.

Nissan Murano Bose spare tire sub. Fits perfect and they're plentiful and dirt cheap on eBay.
Small amp installed in place of the original Blaupunkt amp to power the sub. Modern head unit has plenty of power, so no amp needed for the regular speakers.
The small speakers behind my door panels were replaced with 4X6 Sony, but I did have to trim metal behind to clear the magnets. Foam surrounds on the tiny originals were gone.
Rear factory speakers have butyl surrounds and sound phenomenal so they stayed.
I have to stay, the system in my 928 blows away the Becker/Bose system in my Cayenne which I believe has 15 speakers plus a sub and is run through fiber optics.

I have a Sharkwoofer. You have to get rid of the spare tire and the spare tire cover (both were already gone when I got my car). Actually, so was my hatch carpet and pad, I have replacements from Rob Budd. I do plan on cutting out a round hole in the foam pad, but I haven't got around to it, and since it's in two parts, I've just removed the side that covers the sub for now. The carpet has been left alone, and in fact, I don't even have the fan hooked up that is mounted in the Sharkwoofer. It's (the Kenwood amp I have mounted) never overheated, and that's in hot South Florida sunshine.

@19psi - yes that's another way. You can't inflate your "spare" without your "compressor" however. But you could always toss it behind your front passenger seat. LOL
I looked at that exact solution and it was definitely a strong candidate. I think they were $50. Performance should be something like the Kenwood - IIRC it's a 6" round woofer but I thought it had an internal amp. It probably sounds pretty darn good.

You can get it with or without an internal amp. Internal was proprietary to the Murano's system, so without the amp was much easier to deal with.
My Cayenne also uses a similar type sub in the spare tire well.
A small 12 volt air compressor can bought for about $10 bucks and easily fits behind the panel where the tool kit and jack live. I also keep a plug kit and slime back there too...nice to have options.
If you take a modern compressor out of the case, they're so small you can stick it in the storage area under the armrests.
I keep this in the small storage compartment of my motorcycle...it's actually smaller than the CO2 inflator to the left.

So is it "miserable ****" or "smart guy"...please make up your mind Hard to believe those amps have not overheated under those conditions...have you ever turned the volume up for extended periods of time Below is one of my previous projects...a 94 GTS: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...28-gts-11.html Hope the O.P. can get a little something useful from the link above and apologize for stepping on your thread a bit. T
Thanks for the feedback on my questions.

@worf928 - that's certainly one of the most impressive invisible stereos I've ever seen. It's at the far other end of the spectrum of simple/pretty-good vs. full-on-awesome.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, the link is

But won't the next owner wonder why that warm air is coming out of his rear a/c?
Edit - just realized that was an early version of the stereo upgrade focusing on speakers. Dave, is there a link to the amp/sub install?

@77Tony, nope you and Randy didn't "step" on my original thread at all. I (and I'm sure most others) found the back and forth entertaining and informative too. Both systems are nice. I don't think I have ever literally laughed out loud when reading posts on a forum, but I did when reading the comments you and Randy exchanged. It was nice to also read it was all just in fun.
I'm trying to be sensitive during these changing times, but I can't evolve that ... fast.

A system without some type of bass sub is only half a system.
The rest of it looked great, until that shortcoming.
Regardless, that is a 'thinking outside the box' design. I've never seen it before.
