Here is a picture of my JL Audio powered sub (it has a built in class D amp) which fits perfectly in the spare tire well:
Here it is with my Rob Budd carpet pulled over it.
And I also use a Lloyds mat to protect the new carpet
The front Focal 100KRS
Here is the Alpine 7909J

Looks great. I'm planning to get one of the powered JL Audio subs.
Question, I was hoping to keep my stock speaker grills and put the 4" Focal separates in the door as Han suggested. I noticed you used the focal grills, would the stock grills not fit over them?
Also, are you using a replacement AMP?

I think there is more than one way to skin the cat on the Focal speakers installation. My goal was to keep my stock (removed) factory speakers untouched, in case I should ever want to reinstall them. They are quite costly to replace those drivers, so I didn't want to cut them up. Now, if you don't mind cutting them up, you can use the mounting brackets for both the tweeter and midrange, and then reuse the factory grilles.
I ended up getting a couple of Hans' leftover tweeter cups/grilles, which fit the Focal tweeters with very minor dremeling to make the tweeter hole larger. His cups enable the tweeters to be inset and angled, and they sound great. The color of his grilles is close to factory.
The Focal grilles have more of a grey look, so I plan on painting them to a satin black finish which should make them blend in better. I also might play round with mounting the stock grilles, so long as I can do it without mangling them.
They are night and day different from the stock drivers, as you would imagine. They are truly "high end" in sound, more similar to my home rig than a car system.
I use the Rockford-Fosgate PBR300X4 amplifier to drive the front separates and the rears (Audiofrogs). It has more than enough power, and the SQ is excellent. I'm truly amazed at the sound that comes out of that little amp, which is even smaller than the stock unit. It's cheap, too, at under $200. I remember paying 3x that in the 80's for a/d/s amps!

Figured out something cool with the Focal speakers today. I never liked the slightly gray tint to the speaker grille in contrast to the stock color. It turns out that the stock grill including the plastic surround fits perfectly inside of the Faux Cal housing. It simply replaces the Focal grille. Much better!

Edit - just realized that was an early version of the stereo upgrade focusing on speakers. Dave, is there a link to the amp/sub install?

Focal 3 ways in the GTS and Focal 2 ways in the MY79 (older style upper door cards really don't allow for tweeter/mid separates). That said I'd suggest running the 3 ways for improved sound along with dedicated amps for the Focals and sub. Tying in a graphics eq or sound processor would complete the system and allow you to custom tailor the sound in the cabin.02 T

Exactly what Focal 3 way did you buy, I was inspired by your 3 way set up but when looking at Focal 165 AS option I was concerned by the depth of the midrange speaker and whether any modifications were required to the metalwork on the door?
Could you confirm which Focal 3 way component system you bought and what was required to fit the midrange?
i am comfortable with fitting the base speaker in the lower part of the door as I have looked at the dimensions and know it will fit however the midrange I am less sure about- mainly because the Focal 100 midrange speaker depth that seems popular is shallower than the Focal 165 midrange
Thanks
