Default 'Weaker' decklid shocks for lightweight aftermarket decklids??

I recently installed a Stratton ducktail on my 964... the install went smoothly, but when done, it is apparent that the stock decklid shocks/struts/supports are meant for the weight of the OEM decklid/motorized wing assembly. The aftermarket decklid is much lighter, and as a result, the resistance of the OEM decklid shocks is too strong and stiff for the new, lighter decklid. This makes the decklid very hard to close, and liable to pop up violently when the release latch is pulled.

Was therefore wondering, how is this problem overcome? Is there a lower resistance shock that can be purchased? ... or is there an easy way to modify the stock shocks to make them 'weaker' and unload more gently? Or does one remove the shock from one side and leave the other? (This would seem to lead to torque-ing of the decklid... no bueno...)?

Any assistance from those who have done aftermarket decklid replacements on their car would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Why not try a decent used pair from someone who is replacing theirs? For instance, the ones on my 993 were installed in 2005, and when new, they really popped the lid open when it was released--kind of scary. Now they just lift it and inch or so, to where it is easy to open.

Or, you could try one of the options offered by Pelican--they have the Stabilus struts, Part #: 911-512-331-01-M24, Standard version (pressure = 370N).

In addition they offer Part #: 911-512-331-02-M24, Heavy duty version (pressure = 600N).

That's not a bad idea. I have an old set I took off my car last year that were pretty weak. I'd be willing to send them to you if you want to try it.
PM me.

My first thought too! Or try with just shock instead of two?

Make sure you have the 370n/m version ones fitted, they will have this marked on them if they are Stabulis, I think with just one shock you will get too much flex on one side. The used route is your best bet
