Sad. In lots of ways.

Headlights are NOT H4s.

Euro Fog/Driving lights have been replaced with the US versions too.

Fair amount of rust on the back, I wonder what it looks like underneath.

I don't know if this one is worth saving.

Not even sure it's worth $1k in parts.

The front fog & dr lights look like euro's to me. Still worth $ 1,000 in parts but best to negotiate down a bit more.02 T

I love saving hard luck cases. My own 79 was worse than this car, and I am committed to it. Or maybe I should be committed......anyway.

The small block and the overall condition lead me to think that 1000 may be a little steep for this. I may like 600 to 800 dollars. Every dollar counts when going the parts route.

Looking again, you may be right.

Farris - if you get this, I'm interested in the fog/driving lights.

And the problem with "worth $1000 in parts" is that there's a ton of work in parting out a car. So if you pay $1000 for a car, it will need to have at least 2k or 3k in parts to make it worth it (at least to me, others may have differing opinions).

First off, thanks for everyone's response.
I spent a solid half hour looking in, under, everywhere I could today.
Doing the math in my head, figuring what parts I need for my '85, all the while telling myself no.
This car looked better and better.
It was last registered street legal 10 years ago,
The current owner did drive it once, the day he bought it two years ago.
The trans is functional, no bad noises 2 years ago.
He would not come off of 1k.
Other than the interior being trashed, and some PO hack wiring, I couldn't find anything else really that bad.
Some aspects/parts of this car are in better condition than the same on mine.
This one is a hard decision., it really is a possible resto.
I would hate to part it out.

..ah grasshopper, I've already dismantled and reassembled 70 % of my '85 to make it a true dd.
Did I mention my auto chirps the 9" rears when it hits 2nd?.
...just saying, it's not beyond my ability to take a car apart, and the time involved is understood.
This venture is not exactly to be made for a quick return, but that the parts this car has that I can apply to my '85 exceeds the purchase price.
The hard decision is that this really is not a parts car. It needs parts, that is beyond my realm.

I never meant to imply it was beyond your abilities.

Just that it's really easy to see what the parts are worth and forget the work involved. Not just the dismantling stuff, but the selling packaging and shipping parts too. Personally, unless there is an easy 4:1 or 5:1 for parts, it's not worth it to me. Others may have different opinions.

And as far as restoring this one, how bad is the rust? I see some on the hatch, and what looks like a big blob of filler under a rear quarter window.

I would be very concerned about what else is rusted. These cars are very well galvanized and resistant to rust, but once it gets a good start...

It gets ugly.

Yeah jeff, a lot of work for small return is a risk.
The rust is not too bad, just a lot of small spots, that blob under the quarter glass is only a faded area of paint, it's smooth as can be.
The bottom of the battery box is rotted out.
The other rust on the lower rear quarter panel does not appear to have bondo, but just rust bubbling up the paint.

Both looking worse than it is and being worse than it looks.
