Curious as I broke one of the ps lugs on my 86. On the lower balance shaft bearing cover did the 83's have the ps pump hanger facility?

This is my very early motor (some parts had casting stamps as early as 1981, car build date was mid '82, sold as an '83 US model).

In 82/83 PS was an option for the US 944.
Cars that originally came with manual steering had a different bracket that did NOT have provisions for the PS pump to hang from.

Ok, so an 82/83 that was not optioned with ps was fitted with a different lower bs cover without the ps hanger. Got it! Thanks Spencer

My 83 doesn't have power steering. But it may have provisions for the power steering pump. This picture is from when I did the timing belt. There are two lugs at the bottom of the picture that looks like it's for a power steering pump?

Your camera was probably touching the PS hanger if you have one...lol

#ing front "big stupid hole" on mine broke.
I take it there is no problem swapping that cover, it's not matched or line-bored like the bs covers?

Don't believe so as it's only held in place "centered" by an o-ring.

Be advised the early vs late brackets are different despite using the same pump and adjuster...details are fuzzy right now but I think there was a change of having that "weird notch" and maybe the bushing size.

My na is 85.5 and came with manual steering and without provision for ps pump.
