Default Help removing fuel rail 2002 996

I am in the process of removing my engine from my '02 996. I need to remove the driver's side fuel rail. I have conflicting information on how the fuel hose is connected to the fuel rail. Some instructions indicate that it is bolted or screwed on. However, this is what it looks like. I can not slide the rubber hose off and there werent any clamps on it. How do I remove it?

Stop! The fuel rail does not need to be removed at all. There is a quick disconnect you just disconnect by hand.

Second photo upper left shows the black quick fuel line disconnect. The fuel rails stay with the engine when dropping the engine.

Thanks for the help. I will take a look tomorrow. However, now that I have the fuel rail off of the engine, does that hose come off of the fuel rail or is it one piece?

No, the fuel rails are connected by non removable hoses (except that disconnect). If you pull any of those hoses off the fuel rail, the whole set of fuel rails will need to be replaced ($500).

Hey!! Much appreciated! Glad I listened to that little voice inside me that said to STOP, take a break, and don't force it. Ya saved me from myself.

This is a good photo to show the fuel rails. You can see the disconnect at the top left, covered by masking tape.

Anytime! Why drop the engine?

I bought the 911, knowing that it had a potentially damaged engine, given the white smoke being discharged out of both exhausts. An oil analysis indicates some coolant in the oil along with different types of metal particles in the oil. No oil in coolant. Otherwise car works fine. I figure no matter what the problem is (cracked head, cylinder score, or cracked block), would require removal of the engine. I will pull the heads off to see if that is the issue. If so, I will fix the head and reinstall. If not, then I will put in a replacement engine.

Car came with a used, replacement engine that was pulled from a 2003 911, with 70,000 miles.

The price was right for the car and the engine, and I was looking for a project.

Nice. Very similar to my project then (the "blown engine" thread). Keep us posted if you have time.... curious to see the details.
