Default Lug nut and security thread

1) can anyone tell me why one of my lug nuts is hollow in the middle? See pic.
2) what are the best anti theft lug nuts?
3) my 88 doesn't seem to have an alarm or remote unlocking. Came with two keys. What is the best fix for alarm and a remote system? Any recs? Lastly, should I get an alarm with a kill switch or does an alarm also serve as a kill switch? Love to hear what is considered the best holistic setup for all of the above.
Lastly, yes, I know if someone really wants the car they'll get it.
Cheers

I am pretty sure that was once a locking lug. I believe I had those on a 911 at one point. I hate wheel locks- pretty worthless really unless the thief is a complete neophyte.

Took mine off as well. They were a major inconvenience and goofy looking. The car doesn't get parked in places where wheel theft is an issue.

Almost looks like the old lug nuts they used on race cars.

My '88 has a lock cylinder located in the end frame of the driver's door where the latch mechanism is located. The cylinder had a key broken off inside and I replaced the unit with a another after having a key made for it. I believe the alarm is activated by inserting the key and rotating the lock cylinder as you close the door. To deactivate the alarm, open the door just enough to insert the key into the cylinder and rotate it.

Unfortunately no alarm will stop someone from stealing the car. There have been posts on this Board of cars being stolen while in a parking lot, or in the owner's driveway. The 993 has the Porsche "Drive Block" system that requires the use of a key fob to deactivate. This has not stopped the cars from being stolen.

I agree. Alarms don't stop car theft, so save your money. With these cars you just have to be choosey where you take it. You are not going to drive a classic porsche to the movie theater and leave it in the parking lot for 2 hours. It all depends on where you live. I can drive my car and actually leave it unlocked with the windows down. I won't drive it if I am going to an area that it won't be safe left alone. Most of us have second cars so why risk it.

My 87 has the same hollow lug- one/wheel. Do most tire places have these lug locks or do I have to look for one?

I strongly urge that anyone who insists on using lug locks obtain six keys for same.

You will misplace the key, in my case two (due to a move), just when you need it most. Oh, say a flat tire somewhere with poor cell reception. This is not fun.
