Since many are comparing the 991.2 GT3 to the 911 R and since there have been rumors that .2 GT3 may have a wing delete option, here's the question:
If the 991.2 GT3 is offered with a wing delete option similar to the setup on 911 R—assuming most of the aero downforce is made up with a revised underbody diffuser unique to the wing delete optioned cars—would you order it?
Let's try to limit responses to those actually planning to buy a 991.2 GT3, please, whether with an allocation, on a list, or trying/hoping to get one.
Let's also try to make this poll exclusive to those who don't already own a 911 R (not that there are that many of you lucky bastards!), since I'm pretty sure you'd have no use for a GT3 setup to look like your R.
I was in the dealer today getting a first look at my RS and the sales manager mentioned a wingless GT3 '' Touring Edition '' - with no prompting from me .
Well, a lot of us would wish for a 911 R but couldn't get one. A GT3 with a 6-speed manual and wing delete with extra underbody aero would seem to be the next best thing.
Assuming the underbody aero like on the 911 R would make up for deleting the wing (or at least enough for those of us who don't push the limits on track), it comes down to aesthetics.
I'm torn, personally. I think the GT3 with wing looks great, but it does get a lot of attention from onlookers, which maybe one doesn't always want, and it does mess with rearward visibility, which is annoying.
If PAG offered the 911 R in volume, obviously this question wouldn't even be asked.
Anxiously awaiting the new GT3 for about a year now. Although I consider myself conservative when it comes to style, I would be sad inside if I couldn't get the wing.
No fixed wing would take away from the GT3's character. (I would happily do without "4.0" engraved on the posts though.)
I'd go for a wing delete, keep it clean and subtle. I'd like to blend in as another 911, enjoy the hell out of the car myself and not have people watch me doing so.
I wish they'd offer GT3 with the option of a more subtle ducktail spoiler like the one available on regular 991.1. I think I'd like that even better than the way the R's completely wingless backside.
