I also used the TT main shaft - slightly better gearing and the steel synchro's ($$$$). My LSD has a combination of MS and Guard plates. Someday I will just install the Guard unit.
Did you go through the shimming process yourself? I farmed it out, since I wanted to be sure it was correct, and I was tired of working on the tranny...

I have a turbo 1-3 main shaft including the gears available cheap if anyone is looking to do the same conversion. Perfect condition. I swapped over to the 7GT2RS mainshaft.

Rbhar,
Congrats with your tranny journey.
One thing come to mind as I was reading your tread.
You must be very talented as the tranny looks like a Rubik cube , courageous - especially if this is the first time on this tranny type.

I have read most of this thread and am frankly amazed.
I have an 04 GT3 that I have owned since new. It has 60K miles on it, mostly track. I have been kind to the transmission, only grinding the gears a very few times. I suddenly developed a problem shifting, involving all if the gears, but mostly 3 and 4, which are the ones most used.
My local Porsche guru Chris says it could be clutch wear resulting in the clutch not disengaging properly, or it could be some "needle bearings" (??) similarly hampered the clutch operation. In any event, the engine and transmission must come out, so the advice is to get the transmission freshened regardless.
So my question...can anyone recommend a shop that can freshmen a transmission....replace synchros and other bits that might be worn??
Thanks.

Thanks. I had seen him mentioned earlier in this thread I think. I am in Canada, close to Ogdensburg, NY and was hoping to find someone closer.
I did call him and was very impressed with what I heard.

I know this might sound super simple... But I was too under hard braking and acceleration. Also noticed weird vibration on hard cornering. Turned out it was trans mount. Mount was a 997.1 about 5 years old replacement but the 997.2 has even better support. Included friction first inserts and now super tight.
