Needing room in my workshop I finally got rid of the original torque tube from "Gramps" the n/a 924. I had kept the tube after the driveshaft broke so that I may transfer the end over to the 951 torque tube (which is very low mileage but has a damaged flange). My solution is to cut & weld a new flanged end on. Thanks Gramps. Thanks jigsaw. Thanks Lucky Lager!
I am content with the top speed of the 944. I am not custom to driving at 200+kms per hour at this point. Partially because Wilson takes a long time-distance to get up to that speed & also because there isn't a big track to drive on around here-yet.
The power upgrade is to help improve exit speeds and straight line acceleration to get Wilson up to speed faster then before, even though he'll have more wind drag with a splitter/spoiler.
The soft springs will be my biggest problem, but I think it'll also be fun & playful!
FastEddie,
Regarding the active rear wing.
It's too early to tell, but going to looking into using the oem pop up headlight mech to change the angle of the wing. Was considering the window regulator but not going to work.
2 months ago I decided to vent the steel hood in the following area so that it would remain rigid, but then lost focus.
I think my decision to buy professional louvers will pay off. This is what I was thinking. I will cut out panels from the hood then tack weld them in flush, so that it looks like a factory hood.
Of course I will remove the driving lights & pop ups then re-design my aero headlights. Not a priority this weekend though.
I really enjoy seeing your creativity in all sorts of areas! I'm putting a flat bottom on my car so ventilation of the engine through the hood is important. My thinking is to have an extractor right after the radiator and then louvers in the low pressure area in front of the firewall.
That's my hood. It's fiberglass for a 944 Turbo with a wide body kit. I kinda went crazy with the louvers because the car was getting light over 160. Here's what it looks like on the car.
The lip on the extractor creates a low pressure area right behind it which will suck air through the ducted intercooler and radiator.
I really like the look of your rally lights. I originally had two noses made, one with lights for night enduros. The noses are mounted so they can be quickly interchanged. However I've since had the second one remade without lights. LED light bars have come a long way in the last few years. I'm thinking about having them mounted on a quick release brace. Have you checked them out for rallies?
Thanks for the rally light compliment. It was a success. Any time my lowbeams are on the outside yellows are also on & when highs are on the central aux light come on. They do what I want them too and they could be removed quickly, they are very light, required very little modifications to the car and were quite inexpensive. But I wanted round lights to match round headlights. Kinda retro. I might see if anyone wants to buy them because the "new look" will be a bit modern.
LEDs-GEEZUS... I had seen about half the guys running them in the backcountry on a night rally. Fricken insanely bright. They aren't legal for on highway travel here. Only with covers on them for public roads.
Q: Are they legal for track nights with other cars on the track? I'd sure like to see your car with them on.
I need to see more pics of your car. drooling...
Those louvers turned out really nice.
Is your rad in the factory location?
I've got a pair of 8" LED bars mounted behind the bumper on my 951-nose. (stealth)
They are insanely bright...enough to use as headlights without the pop-ups on.
