Use a plastic putty knife. I use it to remove all dash parts. They are about a $1 at home depot for 3 of them. Just be careful and put it in between the top part of the bat wing and twist. DONT DO WHAT I DID
The reason-Insanity, it runs in my family.
Actually I wanted the stupid cup holder (Would you believe it!) The old one was so annoying, I just couldn't take it anymore. I didn't find a newer dash so no glove box. If you have nothing to do one weekend, this job can be done in 16hours, with experience, probably half that time. It was a fun challenge and I only cut my hand in 2 places. Didnt break anything either and that surprised me!
OP, I know how you feel. I'm pulling with a bike tire tool, the batwing is bowing out about a half inch and NOT letting go.
Pull hard, indeed.
To be continued.
Maybe mask your console and any other soft plastics with painter's tape - just in case. Mine pulled out with an adequate amount of force; there were no fasteners.
If necessary, pop the side trim pieces off of the console so you have access to the sides - so you can dislodge the plastic tabs that are thwarting your efforts.
I pulled the sides off first, just to get a better look. Glad I did. A goof like me could easily cut/scratch the leather? covering them prying around them. Pull the rear edge straight out, then slide forward to release.
Optional:
Then pull the CD holder, then the storage bin out. Easy, and makes things easier to see if it's your first time.
Or, you can go striaight to the 2 metal clips that hold the top of the batwing. Without sliding a thin lever in between the metal tine and the batwing, I bent the tine down when forcing the batwing out. Next time will go smoother.
