Default Rear hatch release...83 928S

Been working on trying to adjust the rear hatch release and noticed something funny...

I have no hatch release motor. I always knew I did not have the switch beside the driver's seat, but just figured the only way for the motor to work was with the key.

Working on it today I noticed I have no motor back there, and apparently no wiring for the motor either. I was under the impression this was standard, but does anyone know if it could be excluded somehow?

It is not on my options list (as a 'delete').

The '83 year did not get the remote hatch release (maybe cars built late in the run did?). They seem finicky anyway so I consider it one less thing to fix.

Good to know. I agree on the one less item to deal with!

- thanks Alex

If it makes you feel better, Scott, I didn't know the key opened the hatch on the Red Witch. I thought you had to use either of the remote switches.

Every time I tried to open the hatch with the key, it set off the alarm and scared the p*ss out of me.

Huh?

Who has a remote? I have a long key.

Don't hate me because I am hot-wire...

I have an old Keyless Entry system with a fob that is getting worn out - one fob broke off at the keyring loop... It had been going reliably for about 14 years though (and still works).

I decided to move to a new generation and now have 2 compatible key integrated type remotes - one is all in the key head - I like this one best - use it daily.
The other is a switchblade type like VW uses extensively - also works well - a little more compact all round but for some reason I like it less - use it occasionally

So you can quite easily add a remote, the key head remotes do require an investment in new keys shafts and some adaptation work.

Also as you can kind of see the Porsche long keys are a challenge to fit in the switchblade type - I shortened the blade as much as possibe to have it still operate in the locks - yet it still sicks out above the slot a little (OK), I also had to narrow the shoulders on the key quite a lot to get them to fit in the slot. Quite some work here...
