Default Aftermarket Rear Hatch Area Carpet?

I was at Precision Motorwerks today and was admiring a nice GTS that was there. It had the Hans tire well subwoofer installed as well as a nice rubber-backed hatch area carpet.

Any directions on where those are available?

Thanks.

I got mine from Rob Budd. Very nice fit and quality, it might have been a Lloyd's though. I purchased floor mats and the rear carpet from Rob.

Not sure if these are what I saw.

The one I looked at had 'bumpy' rubber underside and was Classic Grey colour.

Randy,

My [carefully stored away for preservation] factory rear luggage area carpet has that square-pattern backing on it. I haven't seen any replacement pieces that are exactly the same.

----

I have been regularly amazed at what Mark has tucked away in the attic at 928 International. Since he buys out dealer and warehouse "overstock" items, there are often interesting tidbits to be found. It's worth a phone call and maybe a visit to see if there is in fact a new or nearly-new rear rug in classic gray.

Here's a pic of the backside of mine from Budd. The backing feels rubberized and a bit bumpy, if that helps.

I offer a sliverknit rear deck replacement carpet piece.
It can be ordered with the polyester backing or rubber/jute backing as was in the 928 until 1989. It will fit 1978 - 1995 but the molded foam backing that fits to the contours of metal rear deck as was on the late model cars is not available.
Since Classic 9 is also a Lloyd Mat dealer I too offer a rear deck protective mat.

Thanks, guys.

I'm looking to do away with the original deck mat that has the thick molded foam backing with the adjacent foam/corrugated plastic piece.

You should be able to separate your old carpet and the molded foam, and reuse the foam under your new mat.

What is the purpose of that thick foam on the underside of the OEM mat? I'm guessing for sound attenuation?

I never liked how that is configured, with the adjacent piece of loose foam bonded to a sheet of corrugated plastic to bring the level even.

The tool kit panel has a 'bump' in the middle that the original thick foam mat has a contour for. But, if using a thin aftermarket mat, it lays lower where the tool panel is flat.

Yes, the thick foam was introduced with the 1991 model year, to improve sound insulation (-3dB in cabin noise). It was also used under the factory floor mates, in place of the lighter foam.

More sound dampening material was added to the C-Pillars, and the rear wheel lines with foam layer were introduced at the same time.
