I thought the 991.2 facelift was quite a big change both in look and engine so I thought it would last like 4 or 5 years. I actually wasn't interested in 911 or any of the Porsche until I saw 991.2.

I think the 992 will be out mid 2019 as a 2020 model. It may come earlier but certainly not later.

In other "rumors", I heard they're discontinuing sales of the 911. They're just making another sedan or SUV and putting a "911" badge on one of those. The 911 name itself will sell it.

Quite a big change in look? Really?

The 997 to 991 change was a big change...991.1 to 991.2 change (visually)...not so much...

Obviously it wasn't a big enough change to call it the 992. Personally, I prefer the look of the 991.2 to the 991.1, but the difference is not as dramatic as the 997 to the 991. 996 was 5 years, 997 was 6, 991 is currently 4 years old, 2018 sounds right for a 992.

So if we were looking for a 991.2 it would be better to lease it now. As the value will drop significantly in 3 years.

The lease will consider that, so probably wouldn't escape any cost - you'd know it up front though if that's what's most important to you. But there will always be a 'better' 911 coming a few years out. Also keep in mind if you're wanting a more limited or higher model (such as a targa/turbo/gt), they tend to delay those a while after launch, so you'd be waiting longer.

The generation cycle (991 for example) is always 7 years with the first cars (991.1 for example) lasting 4 model years and the facelift (991.2 for example) 3 years...

So, the original post is consistent with this (991 for Model Years 2012-2018 and 992 for model years 2019-2025, starting in Summer/Fall 2018)

So when can the speculative next gen thread begin?

I'll start...I heard the next 911 will be mid-engined and will get a turbo v-6. Porsche is going to start calling it the "Corvette" or something like that.

I was told by my SA that they don,t start making the 992 until March 19 ! So looks like the middle of 2019 until the US will get them
