So I've had my Turbo now for 2 years and I'm just pondering the idea of maybe trading it in for something else. So tell me what do you all think about trading a 2007 manual Turbo for 2014 BMW M6?

I have a 2007 Turbo with 70k miles and PCCB brakes, softronic tune and exhaust. Thanks for all the input in advance.

What's the attraction of the BMW over the Turbo?

You will take a heck of a hit depreciation wise when getting rid of the Turbo. Unless irresistible dark forces are forcing you to the BMW I'd stick with the Turbo.

I know what you mean about feeling the itch for a change. I've considered a newer 997 turbo S, a 991 turbo, a 991 C4S, a Jaguar F-type R, and even a Ferrari California. I keep coming back to the same thing: what would those cars give me that the turbo doesn't? It would be something different, and something newer. And there's nothing wrong with that. You just have to ask yourself what you really want. I haven't found anything yet that has actually compelled me to pull the trigger and get rid of my turbo.

Ah yes! Beware of the old PADD (Porsche Attention Deficit Disorder) kicking in! It get this same affliction BAD. Some words of advice before you swap out your TT and regret it.

1. Go and rent a new car for the weekend. Avis rents BMWs and you can get a taste of the BMW camp.
2. Go and buy a cheap daily driver, save the miles on your TT, and experience it fresh and new when you fire it up every weekend. Small 328i's are a great little car for bombing around. I rent them when I do on business trips in nice driving areas of the country.
3. Finally, I driven the M6 and it is a front-engined PIG, IMOP. You may be initially wowed by the freight-train power but it is still a heavy, front engined car.
4. Go and hand wash your TT, clean it up, wax it, and put it away... for as long as you can. A little elbow crease can re-bond you with the TT.

Just some thoughts...

Let me be more specific guys, I currently use my Turbo as a weekend driver 1 to 2 days a week. I have a BMW 328i as a dad which has been great. Of course it's no 911 but it has been very very reliable and great to me. From what I've seen the current M6 is faster in a straight line than my 997.1TT with way more creature comforts. Also there's no way in hell I would buy a M6 brand new. I'm cosidering a used model 2014 for around 60k where depreciation has already been accounted for.

Again; you have to decide what you really want. If the creature comforts are more important to you, then buy the BMW and don't look back. I also drive my 997 turbo as a second vehicle. Every time that I think about selling it, I take it out for a drive an forget about that. I'm sure that day will come, but it's not right now....

The year model RWD M6 you're considering is a hefty 4240 lbs car, while the AWD 997TT weighs in at 3460 lbs... Nearly 800 lbs heavier than the lighter and more sure footed 997TT. That's an additional 800 lbs that has to be managed in acceleration, grip and braking. The stock Turbo you drive today, 0-60 3.5 sec car, the fastest M6 I found listed was the F13 Competition Pack w/600 HP at 3.8 seconds. Three tenths of a second stoplight to stoplight is aprx 3 car lengths.. And your 997TT would spank an M6 on a curvy backroad.

On the other hand, the M6 is a car you could drive 12 hours straight and feel as if you'd been driving a Lazboy Recliner...but could pass a number of cars without any troubles should you need to do so.

So, if you want "fast and sporty" that you can trust to keep you coming home...consider keeping the Porsche. However, if you want comfort and don't mind the extra weight then maybe the M6 is a better fit.

A third possible option is to look at a 2010-2013 Turbo S w/PDK. The difference between my 09 and 12 is significant... I feel the ride is a little nicer in the 12 while in standard mode, plus you'll like the added gadgets... The PDK is simply amazing....

At the end, you have to decide what's better for you and your situation. I don't think the 997 and M6 are in the same class...so you have some real thinking to do. Heck, life is to short to compromise...if you dont have to...so get what makes you happy. It's not like you're locked into either car into perpetuity.

Then there's the garage test.... Which is, which car do you believe would have you looking into the garage...just because.

Drove the M6 at bmw track day and performance wise you will be disappointed. Everything else was real nice. The looks of the TT are much superior than those of a M6

Don't do it unless you no longer want a sports car. The M6 is a fast, big cruiser that doesn't make a ton of sense as a weekend warrior considering the fact that you already have the 328 as your daily. I could see the M6 if you were consolidating to one "do it all" car.

If you must make a change, the R8's are coming down.

The bmw m6 is slow and a pig. If you are running a tune, you should be close to a full second faster.

If you want to do it, I say go for it, man. Life's too short not to do what you want to do.

Then there's this...

I'd change cars like underwear if finances allowed it. I have regretted selling a lot of cars (993tt comes to mind) for financial reasons, but I've never regretted owning one. There's so many cars out there, and as previously mentioned, life is short.

That being said, I'm at a point in life where my "toy" is paid for, is low miles, and is the color/option combo I want most. I don't see me moving on for a long time.

Don't know if it's 'the best' but it sure is fantastic. I have the M135i manual version and it's one of the greatest cars I ever had. I love it.

OP, do what you like, the M6 is for sure a great and special car to own.
