Default Question: Best way to ship wheel/tire combo

I have a couple of sets of wheels and tires from my CTT that I am not using....

I am going to post them in the classifieds.... But, before I did, i would like to know the best /safest, most reasonable method to ship them...

Thoughts?

Ship like tirerack using UPS or FedEx ground. They put round cardboard pieces on either side of the wheel and tire and band and tape it very good. Do a google search for tirerack shipping pics.

Unfortunately, UPS and FedEx will require that you box your tires, unless you're a high volume shipper like TireRack. It's a fairly recent policy change.

Shipping SUV tires across the country will cost $60 to $100 per tire. Consider limiting your sale to nearby states. Use the shipping calculators on UPS.com etc. Don't trust the ebay shipping calculator for SUV tires. It will be off by 50%.

We'll that sucks that they changed the policy. I shipped some a couple years ago with no problem. I did ship from work though and we do a lot of shipping.

Use Greyhound. Takes longer. Buyer will have to pick up from a Greyhound bus station but it works.

I have had good luck with greyhound too.
Slow, but cost effective.

I bought wheels and tires from a P9 member a couple years ago. He protected using cardboard on front and back and plastic wrap each wheel and shipped using this company.

As alpine-al mentioned, unless you're a volume shipper, the tires/rims will have to be boxed.

Our company uses YRC Freight and state-to-state freight costs are relatively well priced. A set of four rims with tires easily mount on a 40" x 48" wooden pallet with cardboard and foam protection; along with nylon straps securely holding the load taut. I'm certain that this method would be a lot cheaper than individually boxing and shipping each tire/rim via a courier company such as FedEx or UPS.

Better to use photos....

Here is a kit you can use, but do your own research to find similar kits.

THIS IS THE MOST CURRENT METHOD WE USE AT WHEEL DYNAMICS

STACKED OF THE MOST CURRENT METHOD USED AT WHEEL DYNAMICS

OLDER PACKING METHOD BUT STILL WORKS.

OLDER PACKING METHODS, WE NOW BAND-STRAP OUR BOXES.

SINCE GETTING A BAND-STRAPPING TABLE ISN'T PRACTICAL YOU CAN USE DISPOSABLE PULL-STRAPS OR DUCT TAPE.

Pallet the 4 wheels and ship via LTL. It's the cheapest I've found.

Shoot me pics of both sets. I bought some wheels on ebay and they never shipped them. I may try to cancel that order if I can.
