Hahahaha! You know Gary, there have been a few times where I would have liked to have turned off the underhood light while the hood was open! Usually cause I am charging the battery! I usually just unplug the light...

That is not ALWAYS true. Some of us have installed an easy to use, inconspicuous rocker switch in series with the light, on the right front of the hood. Thus, if our light doesn't come on, it MAY be because we didn't push on that little rocker switch!! - HA, coudn't resist!!! (Andrew Olsen posted this 'upgrade' several years ago).
I no longer have any link to that posting by Andrew. IF you send him a PM, I'm sure he knows about when he did it, and can respond with a link.
It's very simple - the wiring for the hood light on the GTS's runs up along the left side of the hood to the front and crosses over to the center where the light is. I got a round rocker switch that has a small led light in it, 'carefully' drilled a hole the correct size into the substructure of the hood frame where the wire crosses over. Disconnected the wire from the light and pulled the wire out enough to cut it and connect to the poles on the rocker switch (but not enough that it disappeared into the reinforcing frame!). Pushed the 'wired' switch into the hole and reconnected power wire to the light. Now, no lights on when I rise the hood, then if I push the rocker switch, both it's little light and the hood light come on. The cover of the rocker switch was green, and I sprayed that cover with a bit of black paint, just enough to make it almost invisible on the black background when it is off, but still quite visible when turned on.
If you own a 928 and live in the DFW area, come join us today at Hackberry Creek Country Club in Irving, TX!
Today from 2-4:30 is the Annual Member PCA Maverick Region party. You don't need to be a member to attend. We're expecting over 200 in attendance. My 928 along with a 356 and 911 will be on display with two very special Porsches worth over $4 million. That's the reason for this thread!
Let's get a 928 DFW Group photo for the Slipstream club magazine!
Food, fun, prizes and and a chance to drive a Porsche Macan for a year - should be a good time!
No it is German. There is an Italian Euro '95 in KS... Belonged to a family member of the owner who imported it after I brought in my '92. He used the same RI.
Interesting factoids - mine was originally delivered in Singapore. Any idea how many went there in '87 and is there anything extra special for Singapore?
Thanks
And what about the FASTEST production car (in its class that same year, even though its class wasn't that exotic.)
172mph

1. Ferrari Testarossa - 180mph
2. Lamborghini Countach LP5000S QV - 180+ (depending on which test you go by)
3. Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante - 165-170 (James Bond drove one).
4. Ferrari F40 debuted in 1987 - 201mph - many will cry this is not a production car.....
5. Porsche 959 - 195mph (not US legal...)
6. 911 Turbo Slantnose - 170mph (this is a gray area, no really good test...)
7. 911 Turbo S - 170mph (US legality is iffy)
8. Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette - 178mph - some will claim not production, but you could walk into a Chevy dealership and order one with a full warranty. It was an RPO code on the order form.
Notable mentions that are more "tuner" cars since the manufactures were not directly involved with them:
1. Mercedes AMG Hammer - 180+
2. Anything from RUF - Yellow Bird hit 211mph

Wow, hasn't this been beaten to death as much as oil threads?? Ah well, for new people.....
Yea, it's a cool story to claim for the 928 history but fact is that was a new class and the 928 was the first car entered with no other real competition for that year. The following year a Chevy S10 with a V8 installed beat the 928 "record", listed as an S15...
That last part is a bit embarrassing if you are bragging about the 928 speed record and someone pulls out their smart phone to look at the history of said record.
Had the 928 only achieved 150mph that day it still would have "won the class".
It's a "stock" production class but doesn't mean "off the showroom" stock. This class had some very loose rules as to what would be allowed as stock. The 928 used to set the record wasn't exactly setup as a stock, showroom sold 928 either.
I wonder how much MPH is picked up by removing the mirrors......

actally, i thought i remember a volvo and a jaguar being in the class. and yes, any of those records mean as much as a guy that says he was a the track today and beat a corvette Zo6 (while driving his miata)
But, it does make for a nice story and good posters!
and the mirrors?? really? im sure they helped very little, considering wheel spin was the main issue with the run on the salt that day!
