4. Set the time by selecting the corresponding

Setting daylight saving time
1. Press the INPUT button.
2. Press the OPTION button or touch the tab of
the same name in the header.
3. Select "SET PCM system"
> "Date & time".
4. Select "Daylgt. saving time" to activate (X) or

AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!

I started up today, and the time was back two hours! Again!

If I change the time via the PCM, the clock on the gauge will change. It will stay until I exit the PCM>date and time>time screen. Then it will change back.

Well that sucks! I'm out of suggestions. When you said "no nav" I then realized no update to time via the PCM. Where (what time zone - Arizona, California??) was the car located prior to you owning the car?

Arizona. I'm going to go to the dealer...with my tail between my legs.

Let us know what you find out...has to be time-zone related. Your car is stuck on Arizona time.

Default UPDATE

Rennlisters:

I took the car to the dealer today, and the service intake person couldn't get the clock to stay set either. She called a tech to look at it, and he said it was likely because the battery had been changed without doing a proper "hand-over" of the PCM.

They took it back to fix it, and programmed a new key fob for me for one hour of labor. When they were done, I fired up the car, and drove to the exit. The clock changed back. I turned around, and I now have an appointment to drop the car off Monday. We'll see.

Even though no Nav I would think dealer could set time zone with PIWIS tool. Time for that white tape

I believe there is an item known as a "wrist watch" that can also indicate time. My 997.2 (no nav) also loses time, but I learned not to worry about it.

I agree.

If it were just losing time, I wouldn't worry, but this is because of some programming fault. If it's a hardware problem, I'll have them replace it.

The good news is that the fault is not causing any other error codes.

Well, I believe my odyssey is over. The dealer went through the PCM, and corrected faulty programming for the CD player (I didn't know there was anything wrong with the CD player) and the clock. Apparently it was a time zone issue, but nothing that could be changed via normal user interface.

All is well...except that one of my down-shift buttons (PDK) rattles like hell, and the dealer said the whole wheel would have to be replaced, but THAT is another story...

Thank you for all the banter and help.

The digital device (clock) is only as accurate as the crystal that feeds it its reference frequency.

There are high precision 32KHz oscillators that output a well, high precision frequency and are used for timekeeping.

I suspect Porsche is not using a real good crystal or the quality control sucks.

Both of my Porsche dash clocks lose time. Maybe a minute or so per week. The only critical timing I use the dash clocks for in my cars is to know when the next traffic report is due on the radio so every week or so when I notice the time off I just advance the time by a minute. I would rather turn the radio on or disable the muting a minute early than late and miss the traffic report so the clock being a minute "fast" doesn't bother me.

For accurate time -- if I need it while driving -- I have my cell phones and the aftermaket NAVI unit.

How ironic. I actually came over from OT forum just now to do a search as the clock in my 997.1 (no NAV) that I've owned for about 5 months keeps losing time. This thread is on page 1 - and now I see this behavior is "normal".
