GT350 track pack for 56k is a true competitor. I am crossshopping them both.

- Naturally aspirated
- 8250rpm redline
- 4 seats
- Manual transmission
- Performance wise it seems to be better than GT4 and GT3 competitior. The R edition lapped ring 7:32, 1 second faster than the PDK-S GT3.
- It sounds absolutely amazing. I heard every one of these cars up close from the driver's seat and behind. Porsche's flat 6 has its unique sound but the v8 in mustang isnt your traditional push rod v8 or one that you can find in other cars. It sounds obnoxious in stock form, at high revs its unmatched. You will have people hear you coming from at least 1/4 mile away and thats not an exaggaration. It is probably 2x louder and meaner than a GT4 with custom headers. You have to give credit where its due.

Yes its big and no its not as nimble as a 2955 lbs car. But it literally costs HALF of a GT4 (every GT4 I see is over 100k), you dont have Porsche nonsense with expensive parts to maintain. Car takes a beating and its very easy to maintain.

Oh and it doesnt have the tall gearing problem

I still consider a GT4 though because I like its looks and exclusivity. However on paper gt350 is a better car if you measure tangibles.

I agree that it is a competitor on paper. But for me there is no contest in the real world. My friend who I do track days has the GT350 track pack. It is an amazing car, sounds incredible, etc. But the driving experience doesn't compare for me. It feels big. The seats, while great, do not compare to the buckets in the gt4. I think it may be better on a really big track like COTA, but I have run faster times than him every time we've gone out. The only place it is faster in my experience is in a straight line. It is way too early to call it bulletproof either. All that said, I would love to own one. Im really glad Ford is committed putting out cars for enthusiasts. Not meant as a personal attack, this is just my experience having driven both cars very hard.

I agree wth Thigos. I have both cars. On a track with same driver, the GT4 will accurately dissect each lap especially the technical sections while the GT350 will walk away just a bit on the long straights. Balance & handling to the GT4 while power & pull to the GT350. The delta isn't overly huge though. This is a reason on why I think they are good close competitors.... although I think the GT350-R would be the better comparison. The non-R falls a few ticks behind both cars, stock vs. stock.

Agreed,
The Mustang isn't a good comparison

I think the GT350 is a great car for the money, and applaud Ford in bringing such a vehicle to market. However, to me... weight is the enemy, and I don't like the feel of heavy cars.

The stock GT4 Ring lap time is held back by the factory alignment limitations, which was probably just fine with Porsche since it was getting a bit close to the GT3 anyway with the 7:40 lap, which fits perfectly into their brand hierarchy.

For example... the Manthey GT4 development car with suspension tweaks, made a 7:29 lap. That was with NO additional power modifications.

My point is, the potential of the GT4 is much higher than the stock OEM published time of 7:40 would leave you to believe. It has a lot more potential left on the table than many other high-strung sports cars.

And the Manthey car wasn't just a few suspension tweaks.

BTW, the new .2 C2S just turned a 7:33.7 with Christian Gebhardt at the wheel...

- Corvette Grandsport
- Alfa Romeo 4C
- Boxster Spyder (Yay! I have one!)
- Ferrari 360 Modena
- Lotus Evora 4xx
- Lotus Exige/Elise supercharged old ones and the new V6 as well
- Older GT3s
- Definitely no F Type. Drove one and it was quite boring.
- Not a Mustang GT350/R

No one suggested a McLaren 570S. Similar sized, similar weight, mid engine and faster. Maybe a few extra dollars...

The 570S is the equivalent of a GT2 to the 981...

WAY faster (only 180hp difference)

Fwiw, my buddy got one. He was only able to go 8/10ths and had to short shift because of break in period, but by the end of the day his brand new tires looked almost done. At full pace those cup2 tires will last ONE day. The car relies HEAVILY on big tires to achieve what it does. I'll get a chance to drive it on track once he finishes break in and gets new tires (re71r)
