Hello,
Taking my car in for some work and would like to do something about my B&B exhaust. Like everybody else, I have the dual-in-dual-out and it drones at about 2500rpm and is a little too loud. Searching the forums suggests either:
- baffling one outlet down to a quarter-sized opening or
- replacing the muffler with a Magnaflow one
Any ideas on which, either, both, or neither of these is a good idea?

Looks like B&B changed the muffler at some point . I have their headers with a 2 in 2 out muffler but it's a single can. Drones from 2200-2800 RPM, then it's fine. I've seen people replace the muffler with either a Magnaflow or a Flow Master 2 in 2 out.

 

As far as cats go, I have two sets of tips; one with cats and one without. Plan to keep the cat tips as-is because they're good for smog tests.

Just discussed these two mods with my shop. Was dissuaded from the muffler swap because they thought the plumbing would be complicated, but I'm confident most decent exhaust shops could figure that out pretty simply. They were also concerned that baffling one outlet might unbalance how the engine breathes and stress that bank of cylinders, anybody know?

 

We have a dual inlet, dual exit Maxflo muffler that is used as a part of our RSR kits. As with replacement with any other muffler to your B&B system, you will likely have to have custom inlet/outlet pipes made.

So I spoke to B&B yesterday about getting rid of the drone:
- Baffles: I was advised against baffling one outlet because the B&B muffler iteration I have (which I think is still the current one) is essentially two separate mufflers with a crossover. However, he said it might be worth trying a reducer in each outlet. This B&B system comes with 3" outlets, but he thought it could be necked down anywhere from 2.5" to 2."
- Mufflers: When I asked about trying a different muffler, this was met with indignation. The B&B representative/engineer told that if their muffler drones in this application, then all others would too. This might be true, but it seemed a bit dismissive to me.

Still trying to decide on a way forward with this, but leaning toward the muffler swap at the moment.

I have a B&B exhaust system - don't mind the drone - what I really dislike is the design of the headers and heater boxes that make installing and removing the headers a real PAIN. You just can't get at the exhaust studs to install/tighten the nuts very easily. It is not an undertaking I look forward to, even though I have made several custom tools to try and ease the install or removal.
Has anyone looked at modifying the heater box design to help make the install easier?
I have another set of headers that I use for the summer season that I can install/ remove in less than 20 minutes because access to all exhaust studs is very easy.
Any solutions to B&B install??
