Default 997.1 shift **** cap/insert: where to get

The plastic shift cap came off in my palm today when I drove my 997.1 (2007). It seems 2 of the 3 tabs/feet broke. I searched on the internet for the cap/insert but didn't find any except the Suncoast Porsche site where I would have to purchase the whole set up. http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/997GT3KNOB.html

Does anyone know a source for just the cap part? I found parts for other Porsches such as the 964, 944, 993 but not for the 997.

I think you're SOL. You could pick up a cheapo used version off eBay and paint the pattern white to match.

Or I have the same alcantara shifter w/ boot and white pattern id sell to you. Was going to use it on my build but went another way.

PM me if interested.

I would be surprised if Porsche didn't sell just that part.

You're in for a surprise then, because they don't

Options would be:

1. Glue it back in. There is no reason to ever remove the cap except if you were going to replace the front and/or back halves with carbon fiber. The kn.ob can be removed from the stalk without removing the cap. I would use a small bead of RTV silicone adhesive, which would let you remove it with the least trouble if ever you wanted to.

2. Get a used unit off fleabay and swap the caps. But unless you find the same one you'll either have to accept the aluminum-look silver, or paint it volcano gray yourself and fill in the pattern.

3. Buy the one nwGTS is offering if the price is right.

Sorry, just checked and while it's an alcantara boot and shifter the h pattern is alumilook. Can't help ya. I'd say just silicone it.

Thanks, I'll likely follow the recommendations for gluing it back using the silicone adhesive.

Just use a thin bead placed inside the shifter, not on the cap. You don't want to get any on the outer alcantara. The remaining tab will keep the cap from rotating, and there isn't any upward force on it, so it should stay with a minimum of adhesive.

I had the same problem on my original shift ****, and then bought a used one that was supposed to be mint, and it was the same thing.

I fixed it using two-part putty epoxy. Didnt want to take a chance with a glue getting all over the place. Also, the putty let me position and set it exactly where I wanted before it cured. The putty fixed it perfectly, and it has been good ever since.

Looks something like this...

Just got the X97 shifter. The top looks like all the other removable ones but I am unable to remove it. Looking to repaint or replace the top. Anyone know if the X97 shifter pattern is removable?
