So, two things. I have the crappy vinyl center console out of my car, and I'm comparing it to the leather replacement..and, the back side of these pieces are different. For one, I need to transfer the clock and the cabin air sensor assembly over to the new leather-wrapped piece. I know that sensor cap (that always chips) needs to separate from the main assembly somehow, but I'm not sure how. Is it attached to the black inside piece? I've pried open those tabs but nothing is budging so I want to make sure I have it moving in the right direction before I apply too much force, because I'm sure the tabs are brittle now.

The clock seems to be held in by a piece that actually surround sit and the shifter section itself...I don't have any of this on the new piece, and the back looks totally different. My vinyl console is for a manual...could this difference be due to an automatic in the leather one? I don't know what kind of transmission the donor car had, but I'm guessing this may be the issue. Is there anything special I need to do to make the new one work?

On the Air Temp sensor, after removing the factory zip tie, looks like you did that, then remove the white retaining clip. It has teeth that ratchet it snug to hold the two cap (with sensor) in-place.

I can pry those teeth apart, but nothing seems to budge. I probably just need to apply more force, but I was afraid of breaking something. If that white clip should pull off with the teeth apart, I guess I can just pull harder...

OK, update...that did in fact work. Maybe I didn't have them spread as far as they needed to be, but the cabin air sensor is out. I am suspicious of the little fan, unless my 9V isn't enough to turn it on, it seems to maybe not function. More testing needed here...

I also got the clock and it's trim plate out, and from the top, the new console looks like the old. However, there is a different extra piece screwed into the console frame under where the shifter and window switches are. See pic below...is this piece only for auto transmission? Or is it only for certain years?

That extra piece keeps the accordion piece that moves with the auto shift lever from hanging up on the radio and other stuff as it gets moved. Not necessary on the manual version.

Jeff, your two center consoles don't look like they match. I think there were at least three pre-airbag console versions, but don't know which model years each of them might apply to.

Well that would be annoying :-( The only difference I've noticed is that extra screwed-in plate on the back, but I'll take another, more careful, look. I had been under the impression that all of the pre-airbag consoles were interchangeable.
