Default Headlight Washers

I have a 2004 Carerra. According to the option list under the frunk it has listed a 288 code. It looks like that should be headlight washers. As far as I can tell, I don't have them. I can't see them nor do I have a switch on my wiper switch arm. Any idea what this 288 is? Thanks

The washers themselves may not be noticeable because they don't look like traditional ones. They are a round chrome disk on the headlight assembly that pops up to spray. To activate it you push the wiper arm forward.

Okay. I do have a chrome disk. I will try it. Thanks for the info. The manual shows a switch on the wiper arm on the bottom. I appreciate the response.

I may be vague on how to activate it but I'm pretty sure it's push the lever forward. I haven't used mine since I first bought the car so I can't quite remember.

I will mess with it tomorrow. The window sticker didn't say it had them. The option sticker is the only place that made me go hmmm. But I do have the chrome disks. Tnx

You can see the chrome disks from this pic.

The headlights must be on for them to be activated by pushing the wiper lever forward. Do not activate them while moving more than 15 mph, they will catch some wind and blow right off.

No reason to mess with them especially when driving as stated above. I did once and one flew off.

Are you sure? Something isn't right if yours blow off at >15mph. Bad repair? Faulty parts? Kids futzing with them?

They are great to have, but useless unless they can be used at normal highway speeds.

I think the plastic may fatigue over time because when they 'blow off' it is just the chrome cap part, not the entire jet assembly. I'd love to know if a newly replaced set would stand up to highway speeds vs. ones that are 14 years old.

With all respect, I wouldn't use them even if they came with the car. I have personal experience with this one. Using them regularly, especially at highway speeds, turns them into mini-sand blasters that scratch the surface of the headlight enclosures. The chrome covers are prone to come off too. You're better offer just keeping the wind shield and headlight enclosure clean with a soft cloth.

Cheers!

....not to mention the damage the chrome caps do to your hood, windshield and roof as they bounce over the vehicle at 50MPH.

Hmmm. They sound worthless and possibly dangerous. I will test them but then probably never use them. Thanks all.

You can't just buy the cap if it flys off either. Entire washer nozzle needed. Useless feature imo, if your headlights get that dirty a simple spray isn't going to clean them anyway.
