My near miss was close - #6 - I remember when it came up for sale. I was living in Montana at the time, and thought long and hard about getting it. Then I didn't, and it faded away. Then one day awhile later when I was in the video store to rent a movie (who remembers doing that?) I got a call from Jim (Jadz928) wanting to talk to me about whether to buy #6! We had a long chat, and as Jim would say, "long story long", he bought that car. So #1 and #6 are both in the most capable hands right now. Both legit Holy Grails.

But all was not lost, I stumbled upon this one, called "Blumaxx":
Blumaxx is one of the few on here that I get jealous over! Amazing example, it's always a toss up between the blue and green ones for me. Although sometimes I catch my India Red in a certain light and think, man that pink undertone is pretty sweet.

I understand he got it running again and is hanging on to it as a future project.

A near miss was Kevin's (in VA) first blue 928 'rescue'. He and I were going back and forth for a day or two talking about details and such. My wife was telling me to go for it and Kevin wanted me to have it. I think I was dithering over the A/C, which I eventually figured out is not a huge deal to diagnose and repair. I sent him a final email saying, "Yes, I'll take it!" about an hour too late.

Oh well! There's always another Shark in the sea. LIke maybe a dark green OB with a tan leather or Pascha interior, no rub strips, no sun roof...
Lol! We are fishing for the same one

Biggest 928 "oversight" was the Holbert land speed record "1987" S-4 . That Anderson had heard about and he finally told Kibort where it was. That was before it became the Kibort race car. It was a hand modified special preproduction slightly tweeked for the high speed record. Truly a one of a kind down to the never used in production seat fabric. Also used as a special race "safety" car........
think about that one for a while

Nicely said.

Guess, I may have unwittingly found my "Holy Grail"...thanks to my wife. We'd gone to look at a 78 that was in very rough shape that I'd thought "maybe" I could turn into a track car. However, after looking at the car...it was in pretty dire straights and just as I'm ready to walk. My wife, who is talking to the owner, asked why he's getting rid of his 928. And he says, "Well, actually...I'm getting rid of both of my 78's". Well, up comes the garage door...and that started the ball rolling and it's been rolling ever since.

Bank account has never looked that same since.

Brian.

Back in the 90s I looked at a late 91 928 with factory GTS flares. Guy bought it from the NY auto show. It was 1 of 1. I wish I bought it.

Three '95 MY manual GTS.

1. Mile long option list ex Porsche manager car with low km's in Germany for 25k euros. His wife had chosen colors etc. Was for sale only for few days. Probably first one who saw it got it.

2. Arena red (993 color) ex factory car in UK eBay twice. Won first bid at 14k euros IIRR but it wasn't high enough to meet sellers limit. Lost second time around at 16k. Car needed some work but it would have been worth it.

3. One of the last manual GTS made in German used car dealer. Friend checked it out and reported it needed some paint work. No options at all so 16k euros didn't sound so good deal at the time.

All of these were about 8-10 years ago. '95 manual GTS have not been that cheap lately.

I was "lucky" to find my former 1989 CS (Number 2 of the 7 made) but as it was for sale for more than 2 years, so I prefer to think that I was smarter than most people at this time.
I bought the car in 1999 and nobody knew how many CSs were produced at this time.

My 928 Holy Grails are:
- The 1987 pre-production CS made for Bob Wollek.
- The last green of the two 1989 CS.
I still need to find where these cars are, if they have survived until now.

And my biggest miss: The last CS produced. It was for sale in the UK 6 months after I have bought the blue CS... and it was crashed and destroyed 1 month after beeing bought by the next owner

I just happened to notice my 1995 GTS for sale, and was flying to where it was for sale that week. While I was there took it for a long test drive, spent 4 hours checking it over, sealed the deal, and returned to pick it up a few weeks later. I knew I had to be quick, and would regret the day if I didn't buy it, so I grabbed it while a few others were still looking for their cheque books.

I have my holy grail

This is my favorite color on a 993. Wonder how many 928s were produced in this shade of metallic green. Absolutely stunning.

Congratulations!

My holy grail has always been 'Kermit' . Kermit, Ed's Bluemaxx and Jim Doerr's #1 & #6 were why I got into this craziness. So the quest began for some crazy colors, low ROW serial #'s and of course significant cars such as the now 'found' Geneva show car.

One day I was perusing Facebook and my friend Pete 'Panos' Karassas posted pics from a 'fun run' up in the mountains outside NYC. In the background was a Light Green Metallic/Pascha OB 928. I PM'd Pete through FB and asked him to walk over to the owner and ask him to give me a call. The owner called that night. I asked if he'd be willing to sell. He said he had the car ten years and had been contemplating selling. that's all I needed to hear, and made the deal happen. The car turned out to be a relatively early 1978 Euro 5 speed (ROW #852), verified by COA as an original Light Green Metallic car with Cork/Parscha, 5 speed, originally sent to Switzerland. Basically a 'Euro 5 speed' Kermit. My Daughter calls her 'Germit'. One repaint, and the PO had Budd freshen the interior with the genuine German Pascha. Draws a crowd wherever she goes. One of the 'never sell' cars in the collection. It's the only 5 speed Light Green Metallic/cork Pascha car I've ever laid eyes on either in person or in pics.

Really? Or did I miss a joke somewhere? I would truly like to find out more about that car since It was early in my car collecting days and I always regretted passing on it. The owner at the time lived somewhere in NY near Northern, NJ if I recall correctly. He owned a pool company.
