You made $$ on the 993 and should break even with the 997 so what have you got to loose? If you like and want the F then go for it...

There is a reason you were looking for that car. There is something in you that wants to own and drive a Ferrari. The 458 is the most beautiful car mass produced in the last 10 years. It's definitely special. You have owned the turbos, experienced the best Porsche has to offer (I don't think the 991 will give you any where close to the same thrill). Get the ferrari, drive the **** out if it and decide weather you are a Ferrari or Porsche guy. If you don't totally love it the re-sell market for those is rock stable, you will loose nothing. That being said, I eat 458s for lunch all day long on the track. I don't know if in general they aren't as good if drivers but they just can't keep up with me. They look so amazing as I pass them. They just don't have the acceleration out of the corner or the top speed that our turbos have. There was a 488 on the track with us the other day and it pulled away from me a little bit. Maybe you should get one of those. It is the first non-modified production car (apart from the gr3rs) that I couldn't keep up with this year.

guess i have to agree... i'd take a 458 over my 997 everyday. But still love my turbo, it's still hard to believe I own one. But would be harder to believe I'd ever own a 458

I think the thread speaks for itself, its time for a 458! A good friend moved from a 6GT2 to a 458 about a year ago and has nothing but great things to say. The car has been dead reliable, and he daily drives it almost year round.

I wish I knew 2-3 weeks ago, another friend was looking for a 7TT that didn't break the bank. I even mentioned your car (before knowing you'd consider selling), he ended up buying one from CO a few days ago.

I would jump on a 458. I saw one on the street last week, and they sound and look amazing. Do it!

Looks good. Sound is one of the best things about this car. Pumps out a lot of juice on a V8. What year miles and price? Curious what deals are to be had for these.

It looks like pricing has gone up on them. I don't recall the year of my friends, but he picked his up in the $180s about a year ago

I sold my 360 to buy the TT.
I feel very lucky having owned one, and although the 360 isn't a 458, the experience will be the same no doubt. The noise is amazing, so is the way the car handles. It's very sexy. BUT, owning one is a noose around your neck, and although I can afford to keep it running, the costs were just nuts and it took the fun out of owning the car.
My mate sold his 458 for a GTS and thinks it's a better all round car. Go figure.

The worst thing, apart from the horrendous repair/running costs was the attraction I got, and it was almost embarrassing.

Sell the 993TT, it's old now, keep the 997 and try the 458. They are insane!

It's interesting everyone suggests to sell the 993. If anything were to get sold first, it would be be the 7. I think the 3 is still more fun

Yeah, right

Seriously though, when you just got the 997 I told you the 993 would be hardly used. The only reason for keeping it, and that is of course a valid one, is nostalgia. The 997 looks much better, drives much better, is more practical and delivers all the thrills a top 993 can bring. It's even 'hard core' enough with a few mods.

In the end you, and you only can decide what is best for you but don't say the 993 is more fun while you don't drive it because you find you seem to grab the keys of the 997 when looking for a fun drive.

And about that 458, why not ? Life is (too) short and if you can stand the attention you'll get, than it's one of the greatest cars you can own.

Exactly. I completely understand nostalgia and having some attachment to cars, but the opportunity to get into a 458 is enough to override that in my opinion, and it's not like you're giving up the memories of owning the Porsches. Like, if you were coming into it not owning any of these vehicles and trying to decide between the 911s and the Ferrari, it would be a different calculus.

I'd hate to end up in a nursing home muttering, "I could've owned a Ferrari, too..."

A little aggressive, but yes, in the middle of the summer, the 997 is the more comfortable choice. On a nice fall or spring day, the 993 will always be more fun. At the end of the day, I like both cars, hence the dilemma
