Ferrari 458 Italia
Hey gang,
having some interesting thoughts run through my head. Scenario is as follows:
96 993TT, black over black, 98k miles, in good shape for mileage. worth maybe 100k on a good day
08 997TT. Had it for about 15 months, blue over natural brown, 60k miles. Worth maybe 60k.
E46 BMW beater/daily driver
Now, I really enjoy the BMW for the daily driving, and I find that if I want to take a fun car out, I use the 997. Hence the 993 hardly ever gets driven. It seems a waste to not use such a car. The biggest issue is time, I simply don't have the time to drive all three cars.
So, I've found a 2012 458 italia with 7500 miles in a nice color combo (elegant even). Although I would miss having a manual transmission on the fun car, my BMW is a 5 speed manual so at least I'd get to shift something myself.
Would you guys trade both 911TTs for one italia? Reasons for why or why not would be helpful.
Thanks

I'd like to add that I'm not a ferrari fanboy (or porsche for that matter as anyone who reads enough of my posts would know). I don't follow F1, the high pitched shrill sound doesn't make me go into convulsions, and I have little interest in the ferrari-poser life style. I also like to DIY. That said, I've heard nothing but good things about the 458 from a reliability, performance, fun-to-drive, and longevity standpoint, which is why I'm considering. Plus the dual clutch is far better than the F1. I have not driven one.

I would
Since time is your biggest issue and you're not a fanboy of either brand, then I would sell both TT's for the 458. After all, you just want a fun car to drive and the 458 would fit that bill and give you more garage room (if it even applies). You can always go back to a TT or add a TT to your stable. Of course, I don't have a 458 or 993 so my opinion doesn't carry as much weight as someone who has done what you're thinking of. Either way, good luck.
BTW: That 458 is gorgeous! I'm sure pics don't do it justice.

I would do it if I had the means. 458 is one of the best looking Fezzas IMO, and from I've heard a very good car. Worst case scenario, you end up selling it and getting in to something else.

My one concern in that is the 993. Despite me not driving it as much, its still my preferred car, and not necessarily easy to find again should I regret the decision. On the other hand, I've had it almost 7 years and variety is the spice of life.
decisions decisions.

To me, the Italia is one of the most beautiful cars in the world - beautiful design and incredible performance. If I had the means, I would definitely make the trade - drive the Italia until you get tired of it, if you ever do, then sell it and get back into a 911. Then you can "check the box" on having owned an F-car.

Is that 458 in chicago..i swear i saw a similar one at a Gold coast dealership. If i had the opportunity to trade i would do it in a heartbeat. Im not a fanboy either but my buddy has one and it is a fabulous car and beautiful car up close and personal (grant it he hardly drives it either as he is scared it will get damaged downtown lol). Not sure how DIY a Ferrari is though.

I would trade for that 458. Great color combo. 9,000 rpm redline from that flat-plane NA V8. Just a cool car all around--looks, fun to drive, seemingly reliable, etc. Better looking than the 430 and 488, IMO, and not turbocharged. That color combo keeps you from looking like a fanboy too. Love it!

Thanks for the input so far gents. Seems somewhat onesided towards the fezzer, which is interesting given the web address here.

I think you should do it. Not too many people get the opportunity to own a Ferrari, and the 458 is a magnificent car. I have had the opportunity to drive several different Ferraris, and none compared to the 458. I drove the 458 at an exotic track day a few years ago. It was really great.

I have owned 4 Porsches, 3 of them 911 turbos and love the brand. Ferrrari is my dream car due to my love for F1 and their racing pedigree. If I had your dilemma, 458 all the way .

Carfax unfortunately shows that this vehicle was involved in a traffic accident in the left front corner. No airbags and car was driveable, but unfortunately in the Ferrari world, this car is basically unsellable at anything approaching a reasonable price. I wouldn't mind so much personally, but I don't need to get killed on resale.
the idea is in my head and if I find another similar car, I may pursue the opportunity.
Keep the discussion going though folks, its been interesting to hear perspectives.

Did Ferrari sign off on the repairs?
You know, it's not a "hit on resale" if you get the right discount up front. How much of a discount is already built in, given the trade values of your Porsches?
