Default Question on 968 CS 964 RS Recaro Sport Seats

Where there ever clones, or official repros of these seats made by recaro? Any knock offs?

Was the rear pattern on these the same as the 964?

I believe Recaro Pole Position seats are very similar.

Thanks, the seats I am looking at have this back:

I am trying to tell if these are the real deal, or if others made knock offs or recaro reproduced before I hand over any cash. What are these going for these days?

Thanks, what is interesting with those is the pattern is different on the back, there are are not as many molded braces.

There are two different patterns, both are original Porsche. The seats with one less "X" worth of bracing are known as Speedster seats (which I own in my 968) and have a trampoline suspension system under the lower cushion and lack the 5th belt hole for a harness. These came in the 964 Speedster and 993RS.

The seats with the extra "X" are 964RS seats and have the 5th belt hole but no trampoline system underneath. These seats are generally considered a little more "hardcore" and less comfortable.

Personally I prefer the Speedster seats from an appearance standpoint in that they are a little less busy looking compared to the 964RS while not being as plain as standard Pole Position seats that you can buy new today. They are also slightly more comfortable with the trampoline system and some people have said they are a hair wider than 964RS seats.

I've never seen a definitive answer on which one in particular came in the 968CS originally. I have seen pictures new and old of both style seats in them. Maybe someone else can chime in if they know the answer. Both look at home in the 968 in my opinion.

There are a few seats out there that are replicas but in my opinion they are very obvious. Either the overall shape is off, or the X pattern on the back is flat and not as defined as the originals. Be careful though because there is a very good replica that at first glance looks very close but there doesn't seem to be many overall pictures of it that I have seen yet to spot the signs. There are also companies reproducing the original Recaro and part number stickers now that look spot on to the originals, and would be easy to slap on to a replica seat.

As previously stated these seats are not cheap these days so be sure of what you're buying. If you're planning on them just for track events/auto-x I'd say to just buy a set of new Pole Positions which bolt right in and are significantly less money. I have a set in my 944 and they are great.

Value wise I would say $10,000 is not uncommon or crazy. I have seen and heard of others selling for the mid teens or more, and I have heard of ones for less than 10k be considered a steal. Condition is obviously a big factor.

Check out this thread over on the 993 board for a lot of good information.

Thanks Colin, great thread for understanding more.

Just had the seller give me these pics:

Was told they were bought for an RS America 911 back when that was a new model, and for track days. Person selling says they don't know much, as it was father in laws and I gather he passed.
