I just wanted to get in on this. I'll take a bunch of pictures when I swap the transmission in #227 next weekend.

The car on the hoist, does it have an after market exhaust? And what is wrong with #225's trans? You are getting quite the collection of cars there.

The car on the lift is #227. The exhaust is stock but will likely be replaced, it is rusting pretty badly in a couple of spots.

The transmission is just horribly worn, the syncros are bad making 2nd gear impossible unless I match RPMs carefully. in the process of replacing the clutch I discovered some questionable work on a previous clutch install, I am pretty sure that the clutch was dragging all of it's life causing extra wear on the gearbox.

This car is an odd mix of well maintained with some neglect and poor craftsmanship, like a brand new steering rack with old gators, surprisingly nice interior with a completely miswired instrument cluster (speedo moves with the RPMs, tach doesn't move), had nicely polished exhaust tips on a muffler with holes in it.

I bought the car for parts but my brother talked me into bringing it back to life. With the new fuel pump and clutch I think it is now worth saving.

Just bought #914, good runner needing the usual updating. It's in Edmonton, AB I'm in Sarnia, ON about a 29hr drive. It's tempting to fly and drive home, but might not be the best idea. Anyone have any experience or advice on a Canadian trucking company that handles this and possibly an estimate on what this type of shipping costs?

 

Congratulations, Oldewoodupes. Nice looking 79, with plenty of potential. Seems to be not to badly molested, plenty of originality in her bones. Ask the previous owner if he has the original radio, hate to see it just get left sitting in his garage...if he has it.

Thanks Brian. I know, I asked about radio, in garbage already, bummer. I should have said this before it's a '78 built 5/78, 125k miles vin# 9288200914. I'll be the 3rd owner. The car has spent its whole life in Alberta, po has owned for 24 yrs. Real friendly guy, says some issues with the syncros, I guess I'll have to wait and see just how bad. Still very drive able he says. The only major service on it has been the steering rack, anyone know if this is a common problem on these early cars? I looked at a '80 that had the same issue. He had it fixed by a shop and there are no issues now, I'll just have to keep my eye on it. I'll let you know how the shipping goes, should happen sometime this week.
Brian, I see you got your seats recovered by the guy in Detroit. Just wondering what the timeline was on those and ballpark cost, if you don't mind sharing?

Thought it might be a 78, but there are so many differences than mine. The A/C control really threw me, thought that was a 79 for sure. Oh well, nice looking project.

Seats and door cards: My seats were vinyl with material inserts (black with white strips), so there was a substantial up-charge for the material. Complete vinyl was about half price ($1600.00). These are installed on the seat frame and rear foam prices. You can just buy the seat covers, I believe, and install them yourself...prices are on "classicleather9.com". Once you get your new 928 home, just give Rob a call or come to the Sharks in Hell get together in August (link above^^^^sticky) and talk to him in person. He has carpet kits also. Interior repairs are well worth the money, if you want a "nicer than most" 928.

Hopefully your leaf spring survived unbent from having the chain secured around it like that. I'm dealing with a replacement of my LCA likely due to a similar towing arrangement.

Well, shipping the car was easier to line up than I thought, lots of interested company's, car should be on a truck tonight. Edmonton to Mississauga 3200km $1350 cdn. It will be on the same truck the entire trip with a few dealer cars. Here's hoping for a safe trip.

That is just a safety chain, basically draped loosely over suspension and only looks taunt from weight of chain, and "only comes into play" if things go terribly, terribly wrong or a friendly officer looks closely...lol.

But, yes...good reminder for those that might think about cinching it down by this procedure.

Also...Alex...if you are following along...that is the Borla exhaust I dropped off #225 yesterday...time to do some good old fashion horse trading...lol.
