15" wheels were available in both 6" and 7" wide versions. 6" was for winter use with 185/70 tires. Early cars used probably always 16" wheels but some time during '78 MY production 15" became available. Only way to know what came with the car is to get CoA.

Thank you, Ed.

I guess...really didn't mean flat or matt (yes, I'm an idiot at describing things...lol)...basically gray with no metal flake is what I meant. Your pictures look the finish they showed me. Stay out of the sun...it's hotter tan all heck out there today.

Stay cool.

Yes Brian, if it's flake, it is very fine flake.

Anyone know for sure if Grand Prix white 908 was the only white available in '78, I think it was as chiffon didn't come out till '80 from the literature I've read. However, I have also read somewhere that a 928 could be ordered any colour a buyer wanted if they had the $$$. Is this true? Asking because I'm prolly going to need a paint job at some point on my '78 and my paint code sticker is missing off the car and I'm not positive the paint is original. Is there any other way to confirm what the original colour was?

The car has spent its whole life in Alberta, po has owned for 24 yrs. Real friendly guy, says some issues with the syncros, I guess I'll have to wait and see just how bad. Still very drive able he says. The only major service on it has been the steering rack, anyone know if this is a common problem on these early cars? I looked at a '80 that had the same issue. He had it fixed by a shop and there are no issues now, I'll just have to keep my eye on it. I'll let you know how the shipping goes, should happen sometime this week.
Brian, I see you got your seats recovered by the guy in Detroit. Just wondering what the timeline was on those and ballpark cost, if you don't mind sharing?

That's the weird thing, has the compressor and all the lines and equipment, but on the console where a/c would normally be it's a dashed line. I'm thinking it might be a Canadian car thing?

Maybe the factory ran out of control units with A/C setting or someone replaced original with the current one.

It was only one listed.

Possible in theory but very very rare on early MY's. Only become more common when Exclusive department was officially lauched and possibility was commonly advertised to exist.

I've had good luck calling Porsche of America and just asking what the original color was - sometimes they will get you the info if you ask really nicely without ordering the POA....tell them you are restoring a 928 and would like to know the original color combo....Try (800)767-7243

Thanks for the info Erkka and Alex. I'll give Porsche a call and see what I can find out.
Greg, I'll let you know if I find out more info on this climate switch, it looks to be original.

Internal switching is different for A/C and non A/C switches. Maybe there is a removable plate with settings on the face of your climate switch unit that is incorrect. It will be interesting to see if you can actuate A/C with what you have.

I don't have the car any more. It got caught in the Susquehanna River flooding in 2011 and I gave it to Steve (a fellow Rennlister) to get it out of the garage for the cleanup. So far as I know, he still has it and he had it running at one point.
Shawn - what a great story!

Does someone know what the inside code "AB" means for a 1979?
In particular, what was the kind of cloth used?
