Default Help!! Does anyone in vermont have a spare 996 alarm ecu that goes under the seat?

It poured like hell yesterday and now the ecu under the seat is soaked and i may need a replacement. The alarm went off last night and i shut if off without knowing there may be an issue. Today i used the car once and then a few hours later it wouldn't start. There was water on the rear driver floor and water in the alarm ecu. I took it out and am drying it out. It may start but it might not. Does anyone near manchester vt have a spare?

Well, I'm no help. But on the bright side, you won the award for the most specific question ever asked on Rennlist.

I may stand to be corrected but I dont think its as simple as bolting in another alarm box. These are matched to the ECU and require some sort of programing. Otherwise it wouldnt be much of a theft deterrenct.

Lol, now that made me laugh. I don't know where the hell it leaked in fron but the floor was soaked. I was able to dry it out and all is good again in the world. I still may replace it since it was pretty wet.

Just went through this there is a company called SOS they can take a damaged unit and pull the information then reprogram a different box which is a plug and play when you get it back. Also I have seen someone advertise a waterproof case to prevent this from happening again.

Sweet, thanks for the info. I'll have to search them out and see what the cost is. I didn't have any problems today and we put on about 150 miles and started the car about a dozen times.

I'm not sure who he is. I don't run into too many p-car owners here in central PA.

If you need the immobilizer they require the old unit and the cost was $535 when you get it back it is a plug and play. this was better that taking to the dealer for me who quoted me around $600 for the unit and then an hour at least to program the car if I didn't need a new key at $180

Sweet, thank you very much. I was lucky that nothing was fried. I didn't have any more troubles the rest of the trip. You could imagine my frustration being a holiday weekend and many miles from a porsche dealer or even a reputable indy. I did leave a message with one of the local pca members to see if they knew anyone that i could get parts from. But, i guess that wouldn't have worked since it would have to be programmed.
