Default 928 Colour

Hi guys,

Is there any way to determine the paint colour of my 1983 928 S ROW?
The paint code has been removed, most likely when it was re-sprayed?
I was thinking ruby Red Metallic but not sure as Kiln Red Metallic and Garnet Red Metallic both look similar also?
The car does take on different shades depending on angle and daylight....

Thanks

Kiln Red would be my guess being it's an 83. Garnet Red 85-86. More here: http://www.landsharkoz.com/htm/sc/colourred.htm

Thanks, I have already come across Landshark website but pics are a bit vague. Also other websites list diff colour/ year combos.... confusing... Some days it looks like Kiln Red while others Ruby Red.... either way it still does look great!
Does anyone have a Kiln Red or Ruby Red that they could share pics of?

Google:"Kiln Red Porsche 928" then click onto "images" top of page. Click on small images that appear to be the same color as yours for more info. Austin is a RL member and an excellent paint & body man. More here: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...4-rebirth.html T

Possible other color code locations:
  • Build sticker under the carpet in the rear hatch
  • Build sticker in the car's original warranty book

That said, my first thought is Ruby Red 810:

Kiln Red 811 is a bit lighter and has more orange in it:

Those are the only reds, other than Guards Red, for 1983.

I would note the landsharkoz site has some inaccurate info, showing Ruby Red as 1984 only. That color was offered in 1983 as well, per the factory WSM.

This could be Ruby Red, or Weinrot, Wine red. Ruby Red was available here in the USA in 1983 and 1984. Needs a few more shots to see different angles to tell what it is.

With late afternoon sun on it, it changes quite a bit.

This is Ruby Red. My 1984 Carrera was in the same color.

I know the car and can confirm it's not wine red (like mine), not kiln red, and if I recall correctly it looked a lot like Ruby Red. It was originally owned one of the owners of Bennett Constructions in Hobart (thus the DB 0928), was resprayed, and has had the seats recovered some years back by McPhersons in Mornington. You must be the third owner?

Thanks Dave, Ruby Red it is then
Not sure what owner I am, stuartbrs bother had it before me for about 2-3 odd years I think and the respray and interior were done just before that, was this done by original owner do you know? Plates may have to go as one is damaged and looks too shabby to keep on there.
It has about 145000km on it now, not much in my ownership unfortunately, a couple small things still to fix...

Cheers

I think the all the work was done by the original owner, but I can't be sure. I remember seeing the interior being done at McPhersons, and I seem to recall that he said it was the original owner who just said fix it, and wasn't too worried about the cost. You could try calling Wayne McPherson and ask him, or ring Bennett Constructions (check their website for number) and hopefully they can tell you when they last had ownership. What name/s are in the owners manual?
