Default Front Suspension Help

What part is this that's orange and crumbling? Bump Stop, right? Does it need to be replaced immediately?

Thanks!

Yes and Yes imho or you may damage the top mount.

Bah, if the roads are not too bad in your area and you drive "cool," you can live with it for a while... until you replace the shocks...
I'm guessing they are also a bit tired?

Its more age than miles. Polymers exposed to environment and time = deterioration

so, is the consensus that its safe to drive on these for a while? Wasn't in a rush to install the KW's.

Not sure about consensus, but I wouldn't sweat it. Just don't get the car airborne, or if you do, land softly until you get it resolved.

If you've got the KW's on order why not get them installed when you receive them? Seems silly to wait given the issue you've discovered. Why risk making the problem worse when you've got new parts sitting there?

Have you ever hit the bump stops in that car? If not, then no stress...

A bump stop is a compressible suspension component designed to prevent metal on metal contact (and subsequent damage or unsafe driving characteristics) as the suspension undergoes extreme compression, such as after hitting a bump or going into a dip / pothole.

The hell you say!
I'd be so anxious to slap those babies on, and get me a KT align and CB, I could taste it!!!

Where's the point/joy in driving on OLD, tired suspension?

Thanks everyone. Good advise, as usual!

Yes, I agree but it's just usually easier to get stuff done over the winter when I'm not driving the car.

I recently replaced the stock Us Spec springs and shocks on my 31k 1995 C4 and found all my bumpstops were perishing the same exact way as yours are.

Luckily my new Bilstein B8's came with new bumpstops for me to install.

My .02 is get them done when you swap out for the new KW's..
