medipedian: I know. Its disappointing, but I understand where they are coming from. The Red Witch will be ready, I just want it to be ready in time for me to drive it home.

zaevor2000: Thanks! The Rennlist/928 community is where I got the confidence to buy a 928. If not for them, I could not have done it.

I am not happy, but I agree. I would rather they fix her right and do the appropriate testing than just slap her together and hope for the best.

Fogey1: I agree. We are going for a nice long shakedown cruise. I-270 outer belt is not far from Auto Assets. We will be hitting it prior to going to Urbana. Thanks!

upstate bob: yeah, I know. I will just go around you. 😝

James Bailey: In SC, on I-85, even the fuzz does 80mph. My mood dictates which lane I drive in. If I am putting along to work, I am in the right lane. If I am flying low, I am in the left lane, pouring on the coal.

The Forgotten On: Thank you! I am not letting this hiccup color my view of the Red Witch. I am very much infatuated and looking foward to this road trip.

OTR18WHEELER: Me too, Farris. Me too. However, I have made enough mistakes in the past to not want to make the same ones on my 928S.
We have taillight guarantees at work. 😝
I have not, but I expect to be paying for all this. It is what it is.

marine928: Thanks for the support! Yeah, the issue is the location. The exhaust makes the lines a bitch to get to. I'd rather the Red Witch not go up in an ATF inferno.

More to come...

I have spoken with Auto Assets. They are putting the Red Witch back together. The plan is this:
-complete reassembly
-extended road test
-back on the lift to reevaluate the leaks and look for anymore issues.

They are supposed to call me when the engine fires with the full exhaust back on, before the road trip.

We shall see...

Your patience will repay you big time. There will be plenty of things to invest your time and money in as you ease into the 928 ownership "experience". You have the incredible luxury of having some potentially disastrous stuff (read: FIRE!) taken care of for you before you drive off into the red sunset. Enjoy the ride!

On road trips and seat time... Mine came to me in a very interesting way that isn't important to this discussion, but included picking the car up in Denver and driving it back to the Los Angeles area. For unrelated reasons I got a late start from Denver, so reached my planned intermediate stopping point pretty late. I did manage to get up for a pre-dawn start the next day, so I could drive through the Virgin River Gorge at first sun on the way south. That first drive set the tone for the whole driving and ownership experience since. A decade-plus later, I joined a growing caravan of folks headed to the DFW area for the 928 OCIC event there. First night stop was in New Mexico where a fellow 928 owner graciously hosted me for the night. Then I was part of a rather rippin' caravan blasting through the mountains and across Texas the next day. For the drive back, I left Fort Worth at about 8AM, figuring I'd drive until I got tired and find a place then. About 20 hours later, I was home. While likely a tiny bit excessive, this is exactly what these cars were built for -- effortless cruising at speed. The run from DFW to Los Angeles is very close to half way across the country, stopping for gas and food, and for a short early-morning nap in Barstow. Bill Ball left a little earlier, and did a similar drive to the San Francisco bay area that same day.

Cherish the ride and the experience. It's why you are getting this car, right?

Exactly Dr. Bob. It is hard to get out of these cars on a long road trip. We have so many options for adjusting and re-adjusting our positions that we are in the best relationship one can have with something that does not love you back.

It's shorter from El Paso TX to Los Angeles CA, than from El Paso TX to Beaumont, TX. By about 20 miles. We're a big place. TX is also 'taller' than CA by a bit.

I'm reminded of just how big our state is every time I take a long road trip.

Reminds me of this song...

First part of the shakedown cruise is a success!

Made it to Bellefontain to meet the family for dinner at Six-Hundred.
No issues whatsoever.
2.5bar oil pressure at idle. Pegged driving.
Temp needle stayed just above the first line.

Oh yeah...

My brother and I rolling down US33.

More to come...

Seth, Let the adventure begin! I know from experience that road trips in the 928 become addictive! Like a junkie, you can't wait for the next fix!
Have fun, Congrats on being a member of the 928 secret society.
