997GT2 is the real deal
Bought a GT2 club sport last year. After a few days on the track I am falling in love.
I have owned several porsches, a heavily track prepped 964turbo, 997rs, 996CUP and driven most of the Porsche line from 944 to 991 (not the new GTs) The cup is a world apart of course but the GT2 just KICKS A$$.
Get one while it's cheap, it's an underrated car ! Forget the puny GT3s, get the beast, the real old school piece of kit that "should not exist because if the politician knew about it they would never allow that thing to be produced"

Agree it's a lot of money now but still not that much for the performance, the old school feeling and the hugely rewarding driving experience it gives. Not to mention the looks.
And that thing has no lag !
It is however not a car that an average track day driver like me will master right away, it will take a little time which is also part of the fun.

5 years ago these cars were super, super cheap. Prices spiked last year.
Now they are asking close to if not above list price on AT. Some less scrupulous dealers are asking far more, see the RL classifieds. Sickening. They are asking for more money than a McLaren 650s, on an eight year old car.
In another three years we will be laughing at how cheap they were. At the moment the GT2 is no longer the most undervalued model in the Porsche lineup, and it may join the NA cars in actually being some of the most overvalued models.

To be honest I don't care to much about the value as long as it doesn't collapse to 1/3rd or something. Several factors are behind the appreciation of the last 2 years, it's all a bit crazy but markets are good at going crazy from time to time, eventually it will correct. When I say it's to cheap I mean compared to how much fun you get out of it !
I wanted a car that would be a good follow up after my 964turbo, as thrilling, faster and with manual gearbox. Needed to be a porsche since that's where all the friends are now.
The RS gen 1 was a bit underwhelming once you got past the fantastic sound. Would have needed quite a few mods to make it work properly.

Even at today's prices, 997 GT2 is a relative bargain compared to the NA cars.
My recommendation for these cars is to immediately rebuild the diff. From the factory they have woefully low preload and usually become open diffs pretty quickly. That alone will make them much better. Matt at GT Gears is a good resource, I prefer his product over most others for this application.

Mine has 45k km. Trailer queen. Will be almost only track for her.
Just did a few mods, kw competition kit, 4,0 toelink uniballs, cooling for rear brake discs and steel lines for brakes all around. The Guards diff has arrived from the US but not in yet. I don't plan to do more. It has race cats from the previous owner as well. Nice package.

Thanks! I try not to let hype get in the way of honestly contributing.

I also spent some time dialing the KWs with help from friends. From oversteer monster to small understeer. Still not 100% happy. The rear bounces back up a bit to fast, some more rebound damping to try next time. And may be with the diff I can dial the compression a bit harder all around, it's a bit soft now. Fun to experiment.

Lots of white here...As for price I don't care. I do think in the long term they will be an interesting buy for the right person. My goal is one of each era. 996 and I am on the list for 991 if it happens.
My other turbo FWIW - its a twin of the GT2:
