Here's the spectrograph of the stock S4 crankshaft without vibration dampers.
That's a really good spectrograph and there isn't many vibration peaks to dampen in the first place. This thing would probably run ok without a damper. The S4 crankshaft is a really well designed crankshaft for the intended application.
Here's a stroker crankshaft as a comparison. You can see there's s much more uneven profile with a big spike. Better dampen that well:
With the Des moines GT coming along nicely, I find that I am driving it more and more. Still has a long way to go, but it really is a great car.
Funny how both cars look black, but the S4 (on left) is midnight blue. I like how the S4 changes color depending on the daylight. Sometimes it is a true dark blue, sometimes black, and once in a while it looks purple!
Our cars have often been described as looking like a space ship. Recently when experimenting with taking photos of the night sky, I got the idea of making a photo of a starry sky, with the outline or silhuette of 928 in the bottom of the picture:
Had to wait a while for the right conditions (dry, clear, no moon) - photos expand if you click on them:
Raised the camera position a little for this one, but unfortunately cut off too much of the car (too dark to see in the viewfinder). But by pure chance, I got a shooting star in the pic:
Here's a different angle:
Difficult to see in the scaled down version above, but the white dots on the left side of the hood, is actually a reflection of the Cassiopeia constellation:
They were sold by The Tire Rack back in the 90's. Made in Japan, no marking to indicate who made them.
They look more like a 17" version of the 16" 968 Cup II wheels. Very unique and I'm asked all the time where they came from.
Hindsight, should have bought 2-3 sets since they were very inexpensive.
Another shot of them on my 80:
well, i ask cause i just bought a 964 and as far as i can tell, i have the same wheels, haven't had them off the car yet, but did manage to see inside one there is a stamped F1, and the car is ex-japan, so they could be the same...very nice clean look, 'almost' a cup 1, thanks for the reply,
Wow John. I have never seen that many 928's at the glen. Occasionally we see one or two and usually they come down from Canada. I wish I saw more of them on track.
