There's a loooong post in the 911R forum complaining about allocations and they go into details about how there are fewer 918 buyers than 911R allocations... so not entirely true. I'll see if I can find it.
Here's another post (not the one I was thinking of.. I'll check 918 forum):

Basically you're correct in Canada (where there is no official VIP program) but as I stated more 911R than 918 in USA.

....
How wounder if the current Canadian prices on the used market for high end cars have some correlation of the exchange rate USD to CAD, are they hoping to sell to the land of free and at the same time someone that wants the car now and money is not a problem?
Recently a 458 Specialle was sold in Quebec for 550k, it's an insane amount of money.

So I contacted my dealer to see what the likelihood of getting a 911 R. He told me I could have an allocation for $300k over MSRP.
Dude didn't mention if it was USD or CAN? A Canadian dealer quoting CAN dollars? WTF? HA HA

As I recall, if you sell a car that is "personal use property" i.e. you actually drive it and have it for over a year it is not a taxable capital gain. However, if you are buying and selling cars with any frequency or flipping paper and it is not for personal use, it is taxable as business income. Having said that, they gotta catch ya.
