Hi,
I've shopping for a 996 Cabrio - still learning about the different options, etc.
What do you all think of the wing on the attached 2001 911? Was that factory?
Who makes it, etc?
Is it worth anything if I opt to go more subtle?
Thanks!
I'm not as great at the visual identification, but an aero kit with fixed spoiler was available from the factory when option code XAA was selected. This would have include different front/rear bumpers, side skirt and spoiler.
I like the look, but it is also a bit from the Fast and Furious era as well so a bit over the top for some. It looks like a baby GT3 with the aero kit. The aero kit is more rare, so likely would push up value over a 996 without the aero kit.
I may be in the minority, because as much as I love the factory aero coupes, and GT3, rear wings on a cab don't look as well to my eye. The top lines, up or down, are different, and a wing takes away from the stock look, and I just don't like it as much. That's what makes horse races.
I'm surprised to see that big wing on a cabriolet. The factory wing for the cabriolet is shorter than the one for the coupe to allow the top to open without interference.
I'm with Southern Man on this one... I personally think the spoilers are more appropriate for the coupes, not the cabs. But if you like the look, more power to you. As they say, "To each his own".
However, those large aero kit type spoilers make the cabriolets look more light a space ship or maybe, a "landspeeder"....
That's the MKI GT3 wing or a MKII aero wing. However, AFAIK there is no 996 GT3 cab, so you'd be running a non-correct wing for your 996. I agree that the aggressive wing on a cab is a rare combination - but I can also attest that there is something kind of cool about owning a uniquely (or at least uncommonly) equipped 911...of the countless comments I've gotten on my 996, a total of 1 comment was negative about a MKI 996 being fitted with the "wrong" wing.
Oh, and it IS worth quite a bit of money to the right person. Retail, you're looking at $2K, all the way up to $5K or more if it has the carbon-fiber blade.
do not mind the cab haters...I think about them as I drive with the top down throughout the year
P.S. However, I agree with those who find the wing on the car you posted as TOO BIG

It is not factory item on Cabs. If you have a pic of the underside, we might be able to tell you who makes it. It's not worth too much since it isn't OEM.
That is a first time I've seen a MK2 style wing on a cab, interesting...
Nope. The sides are clearly not taco shaped and the bottom portion is wrong too.
The sides look more MkII or 997.1 to me, but I'm not as intimately familiar with them as the taco. My guess, however, is that it is an aftermarket wing.
Not sure if you are saying this one specifically or in general.
I do know, however, that there was a factory option (for the MkI cars anyway) that looks similar to the MkI Carrera Cup wing. A co-worker at the time ordered his cab with it.

Specifically this one. I know about the one you're talking about and that is the only factory option for the 996 cabs that was available from the factory.
