Default Central HVAC Box Mounting

Currently putting the central HVAC box back in the car, and for the life of me I can't figure out what to do with the retaining plate, part 19, in the WSM.

I've taken more pictures of the car than my kids over the last year, and this was apparently something that I thought I would remember at reassembly. Apparently not.

Anyone of have a pic of what the top of the box looks like when mounted in the car? I've searched google images to no avail.

Thanks!

Default HVAC Box

Hi,

Having just done this I can say it is fiddly but quite easy - the retaining plates bolt on to the studs that are in the firewall - the plastic lugs on the HVAC box don't all line up with these studs - some do but some don't - hence the plates clamp the box to the firewall. At the bottom edge there is a long plate that goes the full length of the box and does the same thing. I think that this arrangement allowed Porsche to use the same box for LHD and RHD cars.

Good Luck

Kiwi - Thanks. A couple more questions:

1. The retaining plates go onto the studs which do not line up with the lugs in the hvac box, correct?
2. IIRC, the retaining plates hook onto the box in some way (need to play with the alignment a bit), essentially acting as hangers?

**Edit**
Confirmed yes on both of the above. The hooked/bent portion of the reinforcing plate lodges into a groove on the top of the HVAC box and then mounts to the frame.

Thanks again!

Default HVAC Box Mounting

Hi Again,

Yes to both your questions - sounds like you have it sorted. I pulled my box to pieces and renewed all the old foam seals - with new single sided adhesive tape - also cleaned out all the debris inside and installed a new evaporator - as mine was leaking - I took lots of photos and spent a few weekends putting it all back together - now have freezing cold air! It was a big job but worth the effort.

Cheers
