hmm, not sure what happened to my earlier post...... Sorry to hear the news, Tom. Hopefully it is not a wallet gut re-do. Sorry to see you won't be driving but looking forward to seeing you and the gang...should be some fun and laughs........see you Monday.

Looks like I am a lucky guy. The walls/valves and piston of cylinder 5 are identical to 4 and 6. No scoring whatsoever and no carbon buildup. Very glad to have no damage because this is a very low milage engine (50.000 kilometers). The working hypothesis is that there was a condition that caused a temporary lack of compression. Possibly a piece of carbon broke off a valve and worked its way through the system. Possibly a sticky ring. I guess, in hindsight, the complete lack of metal in the oil points to nothing serious going on but when you are as picky as I am the mind goes to scary places. The internet promotes hysteria around these cars and it is easy to get caught up in it.
