Race car rental
Hey everyone, jsut wanted to know if you guys think there is a market in Quebec for race car rental?
I am the crew chief of the championship winning team for 2013 of the Super Production Challenge in Quebec and we are thinking about a new challenge, probably by trying a new platform.
Would building Boxsters and try to rent one would be a good idea? Is there a market in the Porsche community in Quebec/Ontario for that kind of rental?
The Boxsters would cost us more than the RSX we won the championship with but that could be an interesting challenge.
The SPC is a 5 race season type of serie which goes to St-Eustache, Icar, Calabogie and the new Montmagny track this year. (unfortunatly no GP3R this year) It is a very nice championship for like 1/10th of the CTCC budget with very similar race car. We could also rent for the classique at LCMT.
Anyone think this is something they could be interested in or someone that could be?
I have a hard time taking the decision to put several thousands in building a car and be stuck with it in the paddock.
Anyway, let me know what you guys think, let discuss.

You mean why Boxster and not an other type of Porsche or not an other type of car?
Boxster as a Porsche because this is pretty much the only Porsche that would be accepted in our championship and we thought about Boxsters over an other sort of car because we had a chance of buying twin race cars already built by a pro team.
We aren't sure of what we are going to do, we may have an oportunity to get an other RSX since this is a proven platform and this is what we won the championship with, very competitive and we know what to do to make them fast and reliable
If you are interested in real racing, let me know David, it might be cheaper than you think.

Alex,
If you want to build a Boxster and try to rent it, prepare it as an SpBox (spec Boxster as per PCA rules). That will give you a broader range of events to race in.
Pm me if you want more info.

Are thee such types of events in Quebec?
I want to make the car legal for something that will be raced here in Quebec.

On appelle ça l'alphabet... (Stock a-b-c-d-e-f-g- etc...).
Dommage pour le SPB.

There are many cars for rent in Ontario/Quebec that would be elligible for SPC, CTCC, CTSCC in the US and even World Challenge. If you walk around the paddock you'd be surprised how many cars are actually rented !
If I was buying, I'd look into an ex-World Challenge or CTSCC car that was originally built by a pro race team. Developping your own cars, making it run up front, sorting out the bugs and making it reliable is cheaper BUT time consuming and not always fun given how complex modern cars are!
You seem familiar with building your own cars, but if you have the money and hands on skills to repair a few problems, buying a car that was built by a pro team is probably your best bet. You can buy an ex-CTSCC car with full MoTeC data acquisition, Bosch Motorsport ECU and completely bespoke wiring harness for 1/3 of what it originally cost to build. I've seen a World Challenge Mazda 6 change hands in the 45K range, when the wiring harness, data & ECU originally cost 60-70K alone... here it is: http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=114066
I know your series dosen't allow sequential gearboxes, but you get the idea...
Motec & Bosch Software isn't hard to learn to use and it'd much easier to figure out problems when something goes wrong, as opposed to digging through OEM wiring diagrams and service manuals...
