Steph, apply for the Nexus card and you won't have these issues again. I drive down to Freeport at least once a month as I'm literally on U.S. soil for usually 15 minutes, at most. On the way back into Canada, you drive thru the Nexus lane and deposit your purchase statement and amount into the provided box. They calculate the duty (if any) along with GST/QST and they charge your credit card. It's that simple.
