PORSCHE to Run GT3 R Hybrid at Petit Le Mans in Atlanta
Ask driver Patrick Long, and he'll tell you he's "still pretty charged up!!...
Porsche's delicious 911 GT3 R Hybrid will make its North American debut
as a competitor in the American Le Mans Series' Petit Le Mans endurance
race Oct. 2 at Road Atlanta.
The news - which gives another opportunity to run a sexy race car
- comes direct from Porsche and the ALMS organizers this morning.
The car, which uses flywheel energy storage technology to capture
and release power generated during braking, will race as an
unclassified entrant because Le Mans racing's organizing committee
has not yet established rules for production-car based hybrids.

At the Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance race in May, the
Porsche hybrid led for 11 hours but dropped out with combustion
engine woes about two hours before the race ended.

Porsche Motorsport North America brought the awesome
GT3R Hybrid to New York City in advance of the 2010 New England
Grand Prix at Limerock.
Bringing the car to the U.S. for the Petit Le Mans enables
Porsche "to show fans and customers in our most important
market how our 'race lab' performs under racing conditions,
" said Hartmut Kristen, head of Porsche Motorsport.
