I've seen that video a number of times, never gets old I wouldn't be surpised if he's nearing 400, but it took the Mclaren 5 or 6 km of Ehra Lessien to hit that.

I once heard Donohue's record stood at some 270 mph, I looked it up a year or so ago and it was actually closer, if not 240 mph indeed in an 1100hp 917-30, the SUNOCO one you often see at concours events.

Donohue's record stood at 221 mph, set in a 917-30 painted in a special red/polished paint job for Sunoco's then-new CAM 2 oil. Tragically, the record was set only ten days before Donohue lost his life in Austria.

The blue/yellow paint job you refer to was the scheme in which the car was raced in Can-Am.

Regards to all.

I have the 956-In Car on DVD and the LeMans track along with the Nordschleife circuit are indeed intense to watch! It is a shame that the chicanes are defacing the Mulsanne straight, but I can imagine the safety issues regarding todays prototype cars and their speeds if the chicanes were not in place.

Definitely not enough 917 videos around!! Or old Can-Am footage either!

Agree with Cabrio i was thinking "How's that for a never-ending back straight" ..... Actually this video depresses me, makes me want to buy an old Mini Cooper or take the bus. My 155mph seems like a waste of time

The Mulsanne was awesome without the Chicanes. Great Video. One of my dreams is to go watch Le Mans one year before I die.
