Your most embarrasing fast car?
Hi Everyone,
I got talking to the people on the Janspeed stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and they are getting into Porsche exhausts. When I was younger and running more mundane cars they always made a good product. Apparently, they are even going to do 993 boxes and earlier - so fingers crossed.
That got me thinking about my cars over the years. My most embarrarising so-called fast car was a JPS Capri 2.0S which I ran on a shoestring and a prayer whilst in the Sixth Form. Having said that, the memories of being overtaken by small white vans (escorts and astras) in my supposedly sporty XR2 are pretty painful as well!
Cheers,
David

Surely fast is a relative term? I remember thinking my 1302S Beetle (not embarrassing) being fast (at least I thought it was!!) Years later, my mk 1 Scirrocco feeling fast because it was my first coupe (also not embarrassing).
But my Blue Mk1 XR2 with blue wheels (embarrassing?) - now that was fast (hmm, yeah right!)
Friend of mine had an orange Mini Countryman (not fast, but well embarrarssing!)

I had written off my Mk1 VW Passat Estate at age 17 and as a stop gap I ran a Lada 1200 saloon in beige. This car was forced onto me and at that tender age the embarrasment was total.
However, to prove that I hated the damn thing I figured I should abuse it to the point of sillyness. Thinking that people would at least think that I didn't care.
The result was that I discovered how to do 360's, handbrake turns and how to turn with the throttle to an almost professional level. LOL
So although it was butt ugly, at least I learned three things.
1. How to control a skid and
2. That people actually don't care what I drive. I am of no significance to the man in the street. and
3. You can still pull the ladies even if you don't drive a flash car. You just have to buy them more drinks first!

Fiat X/19 1300, looked like a ferrari went like a Lada!
Handled nicely, so eventually put a lancia twin can in it with a Eurosports body kit!
Have run most things from old Vauxhall Victor, Morris Ital (yes in Kak brown) even a Skoda Super Estelle (more like Don Estelle!!) Triumph TR7. But all of them were cheap motors and apart from the Ital none of themn gave me a problem.

Hate to admit it but a Skoda Rapid with gas flow head, Weber sidedraft and mean breathing exhuast - great fun in the snow with all that weight on the tail! A poor man's 911. Tee engine was so close to the rear seat area that the battery (underneath the rear seat) used to dry out every month.
